Magnifica - Did you dose Cipro upon receiving?

I've had several of them but I have had little need to medicate fortunately. I've had more battles with allelopathy, unprotected powerheads, or heavy metals in the water than disease. But I've gotten almost all of mine via LFS where they've already taken the risk of shipping and acclimating.

Seriously???? I am looking to grab one tomorrow but my cipro order doesn't get here till Friday. Makes me nervous that I won't have cipro till Friday but I've been waiting so long to locate one. Others say cipro day 1 regardless if it looks healthy or not. "To cipro or to not cipro, that is the question" - Shakespeare.

I'm not sure if I agree with this, or maybe it just doesn't make sense to me.

It's kinda like saying "Fun fact if you drive a car, you might get into an accident and die"

This feels like a useless statement, right?

If it's a fact, then Cipro WILL make it more prone to being sick. I'm not sure this is necessarily the case.

I think the point--and maybe we're in agreement here--is that there needs to be a full understanding of the potential implications of the use of Cipro. Specifically, usage is predicated on that it will help the magnifica fight the bacterial infection that's causing the it to be sick. However, there is the potential for the bacteria to become resistant to Cipro, and once this happens continuing to use Cipro won't have any positive affect, and the outcome could be the death of the magnifica.

I Cipro every single carpet anemone and/or Magnifica anemone I get. Can't risk the display tank that's full of them!

Having Cipro on hand is a good safety measure, but not a requirement. You'll just have to get somewhat lucky to get a healthy specimen, and more so have an understanding of what to look for (full deflation versus partial deflation, bleaching, purging dead zooxanthellae, etc.).

Fortunately, I've seen a few online vendors and more recently a LFS with healthy looking magnifica. I was told that one exporter holds them for a month before they're shipped out to importers (wholesalers or direct to LFS) and I think this helps the anemones survive the supply chain process.

I should also note that I would NEVER say this with other species of anemone, such as gigantea. I would use Cipro 100% of the time with a newly imported gigantea.

I alway have everything set up ready to treat, especially Gigantea and Magnifica. I never ever put a new Mag or Gig in a tank that have healthy Gig or Mag in ít initially. Once I know that the new one is healthy I then can put it in DT. I either keep it in the Quarantine tank or Hospital tank initially. Same with Haddoni but normally I don’t have problem with Haddoni much at all.

Both HT and QT are set up such that I can keep them there almost indefinitely.
