I've installed a Gavita Pro 270e LEP 270 watt fixture over the middle of the tank. I'm currently looking for 2 more, one for each end. I'm really loving this light! The Mags, after only a couple of days, appear to be fuller and larger.

Here are a few pics of the floating canopy that houses my 4 Red Sea Reefled 160S, 2 5500K 200 watt bay lights, and the Gavita plasma fixtures in the middle. Forgive the cords. I'm still playing with different lights and haven't begun cord management yet.
The Gavita is hanging by its own wires from the ceiling. It's a heavy fixture, 23 pounds.
The full tank shot shows the spread of just a single plasma bulb, mounted 12 inches above the water line.

Thanks Randy! Yeah, it's a bit big. Too bad it doesn't have a remote ballast. But honestly, it doesn't look too bad over the tank from the front, smaller in profile than most halide pendants.

Maybe with a little effort -you could figure out a way to make it a remote ballast...

From the before and after pics of the new light looked like you added a few more mags since they extended so much just crazy!
Do they run hot ?
Super curious how ur corals will respond looks like the par is off the charts Ha!

Hello! Yes, the Gavita is running full power. Once I get my other two fixtures, I do plan on getting the controller. These are dimmable, however, I do plan on running them at full power 6 to 7 hours a day. I'll let the Red Sea Reefled 160's handle the morning and dusk ramping.
The heat from directly under the bulb is almost identical to the amount of heat coming from my 200 watt bay lights. Not bad at all. The heat sink does get quite hot though, I can still touch it, but would not leave my hand against it for long.
So far, my other corals have had no ill effects from the change in spectrum or intensity. They look great too. The color of the SPS is very nice and natural.

Thank you! A solartube would have been my first choice, but this tank is on the lower level of the house and therefore, not possible. However, this plasma fixture puts out a very nice clean sunlight spectrum. According to their spectral graphs, it is very very close to natural sunlight. I don't have a PAR meter, so I can't test that, but fortunately, I don't have to worry about excessive PAR since Magnifica drink it up!

The Pro 300 model requires a fan and duct work to prevent the heat from blowing out into the room. I didn't want to mess with all that. You can see how the Pro 300 is intended to be run in this video:

Indeed! I love the light this puts out. Colors of fish, corals, nems, is amazing and very natural. Plus, the reported longevity of this bulb is amazing, upwards of 20K to 30K hours before significant spectral shift.

Now thats what i'm talking about !!! no heavy blue peaks and hardly any of the rest of the spectrum like stinkin' radions !!!
