Is there a specific type of plastic that is commonly used on the frames of aquariums? I can’t see any sign of there having ever been a brace in the middle of my 125 gallon, but it is bowing out now and I don’t like that one bit. I have a 4x18 piece of 1/2in acrylic I was thinking of bonding to the plastic frame with some sort of glue. Hoping for something that will set fast as I have some large fish that wouldn’t be comfortable for long in my 20 gallon long quarantine or in a few inches of water left in the tank.

Acrylic will work, but you don't need to bond it. What you want to do is drill holes in the ends of the black plastic brace and then use a nylon nut and bolt to hold it in place. I cut my center brace out more then 10 years ago and tank has not bowed.
