Male blue jaw trigger

I have had this trigger for 1 yr and for the last 8 months I haven't been able to get him to color back up? his yellow on his fins are pretty much gone and the blue on his thought is not there at all and no white dots?? anybody know what I can do or what I did wrong? I feed PE mysis shrimp and pellets.

Ever throw in some Shrimp or squid or mussles for him to munch on?

It might be because he doesn't have a female to show off for. I know some species of fish if not kept in pairs will lose the vibrate colors but not sure if blue jaws are one of them.

Is he a indo or Hawaiian?
Cause my fish guy here in Dallas said Hawaiians don't lose there colors and indos do.

If its a Female, she won't color up. But they need to be fed just more than Mysis Shrimp. You should be feeding Shrimp, Krill, Plankton, Squid and the likes, they need the meaty foods.

i fed him brine, mysis, pellets and every now and agian plankton squid... mainly the first 3 foods.

I'd get some frozen clams and krill. They love it. Blue Jaw is my favorite fish

Don't feed to much krill. It will cause lock jaw and can kill your fish. I'd got with shrimp, squid and clams

I know a guy here in Dallas,Tx who can get Hawaiians. And I think he will ship. I don't know the price but he's normally fair.

Try feeding him high protein flakes if mysis shrimp isn't working out or try dimming lights a little lower had the same problem with my trigger and I tried that method and worked give it a try and let's see what happens.

love to let u know, but he died the day after i posted this. he got really fat then discolored then he was gone :( u could see his intestines through his skin. My guess he couldn't go poop. Befor that day i gave a diff diet for about a week. I can't dimm my lights I have t-5's.

Sorry to hear that try getting another trigger how many times you used to feed him?

i fed 2 times a day morning and dinner time. Most of the time once a day or every other day because of work.

I've had 2 male blue throats that came in looking really nice and then lost the color and then looked female. I dont think its the food because I fed them a mixture of just about everything, I am thinking its the haiwaiin/indo thing.

Ya that is what i think. I pretty sure if you go to Petco there indo and not sure where u can go to get from Hawaii? also for a decent price little over 30$

Hawaiian are hard to come by and cost a lot more.
