If you can find one, what do you think a fair price w/b for a 6/7 inch male crosshatch trig?

Of course, it depends on how badly you want it (lol); but it is a very! beautiful fish. I paid $450 for a Majestic Angel of about that size, if that means anything.

The last time I saw one for sale was before the Hawaii ban, and it was $750 and about 12in. When I was ordering these I found it difficult to find small specimens for sale. I have to imagine the price has only gone up since then. These are found outside of Hawaii, but almost all of the specimens in the hobby were collected from Hawaii. I would not be shocked to pay $1500 or more for this fish today.

My first pair of hatches many years ago was 500! Yes for pair. Recently someone wanted 1800 for male alone. 10 inches. So my guess is that 6/7 inch would actually be more. 2k+. Just guessing. Of course you have to find one…..

2k sounds like a good estimate. Post-ban I've seen prices reaching that for males, but haven't even seen any available in the last few years.

I saw a post on Facebook, someone caught one, fishing from a pier in San Diego… I don’t fish, but it made me want to start.

Apparently they are found quite frequently in the gulf of California and waters around Baja California… surprised no one has tried catching them for the aquarium trade..

Hmmmmm. Haven’t heard that before. Wonder if its the XANTHICHTHYS MENTO as sometimes other scientific names are also given the common name crosshatch…..

Because I’m like a dog with a bone 🤣. I actually joined a few San Diego fishing groups on Facebook, asked their, whether anyone had caught this fish.. several responses confirming they’d caught this fish, needless to say, I told them to message me when they next caught one haha

I'll pay a bounty of $1,000 if anyone can source a really nice male for me (i don't really care about the price much). If you can source an amazing pair, i'll give a $2k bounty.
