I have had this bluethroat trigger in qt for right at a month now and was waiting to see if any color would come out but nothing has. To me it look like a female but I wanted 100% sure before ordering another male. Thanks for the input!

I'm not sure if you can force a pair on each other. They may fight if added separately. Do the research before you buy.

That's what I've been reading as well but I just wanted to get some confirmation on the gender before deciding going that route.

How big are they, never 100% until they are over 4". I know of 3 cases 1st hand of people having 2 males with 1 looking like a female and changing in their tank and causing havoc.

I would say he or she is right at that mark. That's what makes it a little weird because the seller was 100% sure its a male but how can they tell if the color hasn't shown up?

That's tricky, looking at the pic they 100% look female; the person telling you it was male has no idea. These guys are a hair over 4", been in my tank for over 3 years now. The male I have now is her 2nd husband, I paired these 2 in qt. She accepted her 2nd in a 210 fowlr. She's not as bonded with her 2nd husband as closely as #1 but they do hang out alot.

Definitely looks just like your female. That's unfortunate, still a beautiful fish just wish you got what you paid for. I'm not sure if I'll try to force a bond by adding a male later.

I agree with @lion king about these triggers.
I was sold a "female". After a few weeks, I tbought I could see a faint blue shadow on the jaw , but it only was barely discernible in certain lighting. I sent pics to the vendor who still confirmed it was a female.
Attached is a pic of mine during transition to its adult colors. The tail went from yellowish brown to a brighter yellow (as seen in this pic-sorry about quality). Then much later - over a year- it developed the vivid blue jaw. He now has full bright male coloration. I had a male all along. In my situation, it didn't matter since I only wanted one (& not s pair).
So vendors can incorrectly identify the gender.
Great fish. Both male & female are gorgeous. I really like the bluethroat temperament too.
