Mandarin Compatibility

All,

I have a 133 gallon tank with a 35 gallon refugium. It's been up for 18 months and I've been stocking the system with pods as I've gone.

I recently added a green mandarin. Been wanting one for awhile, but wanted to make sure the pod population had time to grow and the tank could mature. I have a Christmas wrasse, a yellow coris wrasse and four lyretail anthias, among other fish. I just read (too late) that these may outcompete my mandarin for pods.

Has anyone experienced this? Any thoughts? The guys at the LFS said I should be fine when I bought the fish, but I'm aware their job is to sell fish.

You should be fine. The wrasses you have in the tank go for larger preys than Mandarin.. Anthias do not compete with Mandarin for food. Wat other fish you have in this tank?

Thanks, Orion! I have a yellow tang, two small clowns, two chromis, two cardinal fish, a fire fish goby, a royal gramma, a tail spot blenny and a flame hawkfish. I think I'm at capacity now. The mandarin was my last planned addition.

I have a leopard wrasse and used to have a tamarin wrasse for a year alongside my mandarin in a tank half that size so you should be fine, like orion said they go for smaller foods than wrasses typically go for
