Was at the store for some calcium and foods yesterday and they had two male and two female Mandarins. Not mated pairs and the skinniest excuse for Mandarins that I have ever seen. But they were adults and not floating upside down and I had a filled up fidelity card so they cost less that a dollar. I figured I would give a pair a try. The male is eating live and frozen foods today, the female is hunting constantly and has a decent supply of pods in the aquarium. They started swimming together just a couple of hours ago. I hope that it is not too late for them to retake weight and thrive. They are cute.

It might be possible to get a strainer over them together and give them some extra feeding time. Its a real band of gluttons in there.

The tank is young but there is a large algae reactor that pumps out pods like a factory. I also dose live pods and live phyto regularly. There is a small company that distributes live foods around the country weekly with pods, rotifera, artemia, mysis, grammarus, etc. At night the rocks and sand are swarming. There is a bipartatus and a hortelanus wrasse that dive into the sand and stir. The mandarins are following that naturally.
