Manganese

I think most people add mangonese for goniopora corals, but even then, its not really proven if it benefits the coral or not.

Do you have goni's? Why are you adding this to your tank? What do you expect it to do for your tank?

Yes, that should be fine. I use manganese gluconate.

Manganese is needed by all organisms and is rapidly depleted, but exactly what levels are needed in the water is not clear. :)

Yes I have several Goni’s and they are doing very well and I do contribute it to adding Manganese

So that’s my question how would I mix this powder and add it without overdosing ? The AF manganese is a liquid and I use 2ml as it says. So not sure how I would properly use this powder. But wow it would sure save a ton of money.

It does say each capsule is 8ml so maybe I can just delute it in a bottle and just add 2ml each day?

Yes, you can go off the amount per capsule. :)

for reference, i dose 0.1 mg of Manganese into 125 system gallons daily.
each of your tablets is 8mg of manganese amino acid chelate.
You'd have to get @Randy Holmes-Farley to calculate the actual manganese content, as a % of 8mg.

Edit: looks like af manganese supplement is 0.1 mg/ml. So you were dosing 0.2 mg with a 2ml dose.

So I’m currently dosing 2ml of Manganese from AF Dailey . So I’m thinking if one tablet is 8ml that one tablet would be good for four dosings?

No.
1 tablet is 8mg Of manganese amino acid chelate. Which i think is 25% manganese or 2mg per capsule. That is 10x what you were dosing with af.
Dissolve 1 tablet in 100ml water and dose 1/10 or 10 ml daily. If the tablet dissolves in less water you can do that.

Each tablet contains 8 mg of actual manganese. :)

Ok, Randy corrected me.
Dissolve 1 8mg tablet in 80ml of water to get the 0.1 mg/ml, same concentration as your af product.
Then dose 2ml.
this assumes 1 tablet will dissolve in 80 ml of water.

It should, except for insoluble additives in the tablet. Just ignore undissolved solids after the tablet falls apart and you shake it up a bit.

Ok so do you think this will be safe? I don’t want to do anything to mess up my reef just to save some money?

Is this what you use Randy ? If so what formula do you use?

Yes, that’s what I use, but the tablets mentioned above are pre weighed.

I’m just dosing a refugium and I mixed ferrous gluconate and the manganese gluconate. I’m not at the tank right now and do not recall exactly what I used, but the diy archive sticky gives a recipe using the gluconate. :)

Sorry I was seeing that wrong on the bottle. It’s 8mg not 8 ml . So to be correct I can dissolve one tablet in 80ml of water and just add 2ml each day. Is this correct?
