Hello, I have a mantis shrimp that hitchhiked onto my live ocean rock from kp aquatics. I think it’s a wennerae mantis shrimp because it’s sort of green/yellow and pretty small. I had it for a while now but now I’d like to start adding fish to my aquarium.

My sump’s refugium chamber is 9.5"L x 11.5"W x 15"H. I don’t have anything in that chamber yet but I plan on using one of those refugium starter kits soon. Is it safe and okay to put the mantis shrimp in there? I’ll add a cave of rocks or pvc pipe for it to hide in.

Should be fine. It’ll probably be happy enough as long as there are hidey holes. I have or had, one in my main display and eats frozen fish food with gusto.

Okay, thanks for the help! Would it be fine without sand? Just rubble and a pvc pipe?
