Mariner M70 Filter Fleece Options

Hello r2r folks,

I'm wondering if anyone has any personal experience with installing a fleece roller in their eshopps mariner m70 stock sump. Eshopps advertises a removable sock section for installing one, but I'm wondering what model worked best. I was looking at the Bubble Magus ARF Elite M gen 2, it looks like it would install fairly easy. Does anyone have experience with installing other models?

I have the M40 and used the Nature Dimensions with a 3D printed adapter. Nature Dimensions sells a similar adapter themselves

ND does seem like a solid company. My tank is a bit of a weird size where one unit is likely undersized, but 2 units does not sound desirable to me since I'm basically just doing double the work replacing the rolls when I could just have one larger unit. I wish someone made a filter designed to fit in the 7"x4.5" filter sock bays. It looks like the Fiji Cube model might fight but it seems risky to hope.

yeah... you could in theory just plug one of the filter sock bays and run one fleece roller. You may have to replace a little more often, but it'll likely be a monthly routine at worst.

I wouldn't. A single N Clear won't handle the flow. I use PolyFil in a filter cup. When it plugs up, the fleece roller overflows and the water short circuits over the weirs. I'd either keep a sock or do 2 fleece rollers.

I'm trying to remember, isn't the adapter for the socks removable? If you wanted a larger fleece roller, remove that and get an adapter 3D printed for the larger roller you want? Unless I'm misremembering and it's not removable which is definitely a possibility. .

Do you have the stagnant water affect running that roller fleece?

I have a reefmat in mine and then idk what to do with the secondary drain because of that weird dead zone where they’re supposed to Plumb

Im not sure how the Reefmat compares to the N Clear but mine works almost like a sock. It replaces one of the filter socks in my sump and when the water backs up to the setpoint I have it adjusted to the roller rolls an inch or two.

So does it skip the hose and both drain pipes run in the drop down section?

I’m running my reefmat 250 just because I already had it, but not sure how I feel about that back section or what to do with it if the main flow isn’t running there. Also takes up more space

Im working on an MP100 now and was disappointed when i found out my reefmat 500 won't fit. The Eshopps socks get nasty looking but never clog which tells me they aren't filtering very well. Even my mesh socks will clog. After trying a few diy sock holders I landed on nosoks and have to rinse them every 2 days which is fine because in this tank I'm more concerned with filtration than reducing maintenance.
@Vivid Creative Aquatics designed holders to fit the Eshopps socks chamber so you can run nosoks or other socks that fit Redsea 4 inch sock holders. I would imagine a couple of ND rollers that fit 4" sock holders could be used. VCA even made the file available for people that have a 3d printer.
