today I picked up two maroon clowns for my tank they are the only fish in the tank. The clowns where in different tanks alone I asked the woman if she knew why she said she didn’t know all I know is one nipped the others tail good in the bag which is prolly normal but they are both kinda keeping there distance from each other in the tank. The question is they where both the same size is there still a chance that one will change sex. They are around 2” or little bigger

One is picking on other when it comes around. Think this will maybe stop when adjusted in 36g

Super nice fish!

The only Maroon experience I have to offer are based on the two I currently have in my tank. They were much smaller than what your describing and it still got pretty ugly before they paired up. It might be a challenge at that size and if they are both about the same size. Be ready to take action if it starts to get ugly. :)

Well one has been chasing the other hardcore. Bad thing is the only reason I got the two same size is because was the only two they had. Would mixing tomato clowns with maroon be a bad idea

To give you an idea, mine are in a 144 gallon with plenty of room to run and hide and the aggression lasted a couple of months. Tomatoes and Maroons are both pretty agrresive, I personally wouldn't mix the two.

One of them stays in the corner most of the time and if it try’s to move the other will chase it. Rarly will both be out swimming the one is just a dick can’t see any signs of being picked on but don’t want it to stress to death what should I do

I think maroons are some of the most aggressive and territorial, there was a reason they weren’t in the same tank at the lfs, most of them can’t be kept together, especially at that size. I hate to say it but I feel your chances of getting them to get along is pretty slim. I would say otherwise if they were in a bigger tank like @hdsoftail1065 said or if they were a different breed.

If they are locking jaws that is not a good sign. You may have two females
. The best success I have had pairing up maroons is to have one fish being significantly larger than the other fish. One of my clowns was 2” and the other was 1”. The 1” clown was a juvenile. Once a clown turnes female they will not be able to turn back to a male. A male can turn to a female. Once they go female, they will just fight to the death.
