Maroon clownfish growth

I have a 4 year old maroon clownfish that I bought from Petco a little over 3 years ago. When I bought him, he was almost an inch, and now he is 3 inches. How much do maroon clowns usually grow annually and how long will it take for it to reach full size? Also, he is the only clown in the tank. Will he turn into a female and become big and aggressive? He is currently one of the most peaceful fish in my tank and he never starts fights.

There’s a restaurant in my parents’ town with a reef tank. There’s a maroon in that tank that is 5 inches if not 6. She looks giant. Her “mate” is a regular ocellaris, he looks teeny despite being an adult. They’re in a 4 foot long 90 gallon tank. I asked the owner how old the clowns were and he said they’re 12 years old or so.

My girl and boy are about a year old. The girl was about a half inch when I got them; she is now about 3 inches or so. The boy is about an inch long. They’re also in a 4 footer (75 gallon).

One inch per year sounds about right. In another 2 or 3 years, it should reach its full size.

It’s probably already female. They don’t always become female and then immediately turn aggressive. Some clowns are peaceful and stay peaceful, they’re all different.

Plan on an involved introduction, and a back up plan. I would definitely have a breeder box on hand.
I have had an adult female Maroon clown kill a new introduction in under 10 minutes.

It might, you never know. It might pair with the ocellaris and it might just attack it instantly. You’re best bet would probably be to get another small maroon.

Maroons are probably the most unpredictable in terms of temperament and individual personalities. I concur with what's already been said:

1. Your maroon is most likely already a female.
2. It may become aggressive with the addition of a new clownfish; another maroon will probably garner the best results
3. For safety sake, the introduction should be done slowly, with the use of a container/breeder box

I have one that is about 5.5 inches an is probably pushing 16 years as I have had her for 15 and she was around 2-3 inches when I got her. I never really noticed a big growth until I got another clown and it seemed that almost suddenly she changed in size. Guess she morphed into a female from what was once a smaller male. Overall she has been pretty peaceful other than the occasional annoyance with my yellow tang that is close to the same age.
