This is wonderful, I am going to make a donation.
I am in Texas and it was painful to watch my tank suffer through days with no electricity, no filtration, water flow, water temperature going down, and so on. Luckily my damage wasn’t too great, a lot of the corals recovered.
Thank you for thinking of other Texans who were not as lucky.

I posted my Houston freeze horror story in this thread https://www.reef2reef.com/threads/d...-way-that-i-can-help-reefers-in-texas.805617/

Thank you to everybody that wants to help out Houston reefers during this freak freeze. I’m 17 in three days (yay!) and have lived here my entire life. I have never ever been told to “wrap the pipes” and was very confused when I was told to do so. Frozen pipes, dead tropical plants, and icy roads were all completely alien to me and it was shocking to see the state of my city during the freeze.

Many of my fellow Houston reefers have told their stories and documented the death of their tanks on marsh, and it’s heartbreaking. I’ve been floored by the number of people reaching out and asking how they can help us and give us donations. Humbly, I thank everyone who has helped us; BRS, individuals, and multiple vendors have offered discounts, donations, frags, and more to be distributed amongst those effected and its really helped a lot of people stay in the hobby after losing everything. THANK YOU!

Coming from a state that is regularly hit with hurricanes, I have seen first hand how devastating this can be to the reefing community. #Texas Strong!! Remember, this isn't our money... all that we have is at the great generosity of the almighty. He commands that we do his work.

Read the many heartbreaking stories about Texan’s aquariums during the power outages. Posted a thread Friday night on R2R on wanting to help anyone in need in Texas. @footgal responded, described the ordeals, and directed me to MARSH. That’s when I learned about MARSH, joined, and sent a donation. Found MARSH to be quite responsive, so I sent another donation.

Hard to understand the difficult things that happen to us in life but I Know that MARSH members are in good hands and have a very supportive community.

Wishing everyone a speedy recovery. Looking forward to hearing the recovery stories and seeing the recovery pictures on MARSH.

Yeah, sadly all my fish died and pretty much every coral dumped their zozan. I had one clown that was spinning sideways in circles. She is still alive but not sure if will make it. Still swims sideways staying near the top of the tank. One chalice lost 90% of its zozan exposing the calcium ridges underneath however there are still tiny patches left so I left it to try to survive. I do not even see a mouth so I am not sure if it will make it.

My generator chose now to go bad teaching an important lesson. It is great to have, but you should still start them every few months.

Also, BRS did a really nice video on emergency options for warming tanks which could even work for cooling. Sadly taking care of 4 kids I was not able to be as smart or creative as them in time.

I highly recommend anyone with a tank.. spend the money.. get a dual fuel generator. Gas goes bad over time, and if you wait until an outage to buy a can, it may not be available or you can't make it due to a storm. You can however store a bunch of LP tanks and even get some multi-port connectors so you can change LP tanks without stopping the generator.

Hoping others were faster thinkers and smarter than myself!

Good luck all!

As a Houstonian that was fortunate enough to not lose my tanks, I will gladly contribute to those who had to start over. My tanks got down to 61 and managed to recover. They were covered in towels and blankets and lights were out/no pump for nearly 3 full days. Intermittent power after that. I can’t believe they survived.

Im located in Canada and I will be for sure donating to help fund this! The events in TX are incredibly unfortunate and I will try my best to help this cause. We are all part of the same community, we have to look out for each other!

I live in East Texas in a little town called Nacogdoches, TX. We where hit with ice damage to the electrical system, so I was without power for a long time. This is the coldest I have seen here in the last 30 years. It was a rough week last week. Luckily I have gas heat but need electricity to run the fan. The generator saved ALL the livestock in my 75 gallon reef. It ran generator for 5 days. My daughter and neighbor went and found gas for the generator throughout the ordeal. It usually took them 2-3 hours just to find gas... Water went out but I have plenty of Ro and Saltwater mixed.

I am very thankful to friends and family and ALL inhabitants are doing great.

I plan to donate to others in need. I could not imagine what its like to loose a reef tank.
