2.5 years later....I received this little nib of Beach Bum from a local friend. I wasn't even sure it would make it, and it took forever to grow.

I've been inspired lately by more videos about CO2 scrubbers. I had mine in use for about 6 months with great results until one day too much condensation built up and melted the media. This sent alk in the tank to the moon and somehow I lucked out and caught it before it destroyed everything.

I will no longer run them in recirculating fashion for this reason. My new plan is to run the second chamber full and the first chamber with some RO water to provide a mild amount of water vapor through chamber 2.

Was messing with the phone camera trying to do some close ups, no filter.

Also last week I modified my skimmer intake in combination with the CO2 scrubber. It's getting a mixed draw of recycled air and scrubbed air. Meanwhile water hasn't built up at all in the second chamber while still receiving humid air from the first chamber.

Great build, Really enjoyed watching the progress. How do you feel about the Bare bottom. I'm actually thinking of adding sand. Not sure at this point. Pro's and Con's?

I much prefer the crushed coral look, but can already say the tank is staying cleaner. I have a kid on the way, so my main intention was to reduce maintenance. Otherwise I would not have removed it, and will likely replace it I'm the future.

Pros:
- No detritus traps, reduced maintenance
- Tank looks bigger IMO

Cons:
- Less natural look
- Substrate can help with PH stabilization
- No place for burrowing animals to hide

Thanks for your prompt and detailed response.First and foremost, Congrats on the pending arrival of your child.
I can relate to the comment regarding detritus traps. My pumps create typhoons in areas of the tank. Granted it makes for easy removal but not pretty when pumps are running.
PH stabilization, meaning a higher stable PH?
I’m looking to add wrasses to my system and that is my reason for considering a substrate.

100% and thank you!!

I have two Leopard Wrasses and a Corris Wrasse. I am keeping a 3-4" deep section on one end of my tank which is where they have always slept. The Leopard pair are the oldest fish in the tank and it's a must of they are going to stay happy.
