Hello going to use this thread as my main build thread for my Max Nano XXl. Additional equipment I have for the tank aside from what comes with it is the Red Sea ATO with reef can, Nano Mat, and a reef wave 25. Any advice or suggestions is greatly appreciated.

Welcome to R2R.

Congratulations on your new system!!!!!

Do you have any tentative plans for the tank yet?

I think we are going to keep it simple to start to figure everything out. Going to most likely end up with a mix of fish and corals and go from there.

Did a bit of rock work at the store. Used caribsea life rock. Also picked Fiji pink live sand

It’s been awhile since an update. Everything went well with the cycle and all numbers bottomed out. Started to add livestock, pictures will be added. So far we have a yellow watchman goby and pistol shrimp, Banggai Cardinal, a green star polyp, and a Zoanthid I believe the store had said it was a lucky charm. We were looking at a few and I might have gotten them mixed up. Once it opens up more I’ll post a better picture for identification.Overall everything seems to be doing well the green star and Zoa are starting to open. The pistol is hard at work making a burrow and the watchman is exploring the tank. The cardinal is also doing well exploring.

I’ve read in a post or two that the pumps are pretty powerful for the Nano XXL and I feel that they produce too much flow. What has your experience been? I’m thinking of putting in new DC pumps but I’m not sure what I should get.

They are pretty strong I currently have them pointed up and towards the middle of the tank and it seems to keep things moving fine. My reef wave 25 is set to 25% random flow otherwise that gets too strong. I’ve thought about changing the returns to DC pumps as well but I think I’m going to attempt to see if the flow strength settles down once I have some corals up high breaking the nozzles flow into multiple directions. Hope this helps if you have any feel free to ask. I’m also pretty new so if you have any suggestions I’m open to hearing them.
