Thanks for the links! I assume there is a difference between the XF and the XL models. I have a friend that has the newest XL model for testing /review something. He got it thru a connection of some type. Is the difference in the controller? Like You can control it thru bluetooth or such I think?

Ya He's testing it for somebody. I tried working him for info but he didn't want to talk about it too much LOL.
So the xl's are larger beefed up versions. I don't need a really large one. I want to install one then maybe two on a new 180 build. The XF would be plenty. Thanks again for the links !
Also that means I don't have to wait ! Now where's that credit card? I hid it from myself.

Ok ! I received a XF 250 with the 2nd gen controller today. I confess to be completely illiterate on controllers. I managed to turn it though ! LOL Thanks Blitzie for the how to clip. it was/is a big help as the book is useless to me.
I also bumped up the volume to 90%. It's hard to see how it's doing as there isn't anything in the tank. I do think I'll need another at the other end. we shall see.

I 'm working on where to place the driver and controller. Can I place the driver & controller next to each other?

By driver I assume you mean power supply. Sure, put them anywhere just don't let them get wet.

I'll get my 2nd Gyre 250 tomorrow. Very interested to see what kind of flow/current I get with 2 pumps . I want to try the random setting.

Evening Gents, well I got a xf250 a couple of weeks ago. powered up 100% was not what I expected so I ordered a 2nd. I ordered another 250 last Sunday, I received it today. They sent me a 200 ! Waaaaa ! The shipping list states 250 so no worries. All I gotta do is ship it back and wait. So these 250's are going on a 180. one left me wanting.I'm looking forward to seeing how well 2 do and interact with each other thru the differing modes.

I'm pretty sure they only make a 230, 250, 280... It says 200 series on the box though.

Are you sure you didn't get the 250 pump? When they say 200 that refers to the 200 series which could be the xf 230, xf 250 or xf280. There is no xf200 pump.

edit ... DVR, beat me by a few seconds.

Ok I got the 2nd gyre running. It surely woke everything up ! Both at 100% no mode yet. I'll mess with that latter . still gave some other stuff to do before I get to play. You guys saved me from an embarrassing conversation with the BRS rep ! LOL

I have a red sea reefer 450 (60" wide about 90gal) - would a 250 be overkill? Am I better off with a 230 for this size tank? I would rather have the larger pump and run it lower % to keep possible noise to a min and less wear and tear on the motor.

The 250 would not be overkill at all. With gyres it's more about the length than the gallons. You've got to push water 10ft. That's 5ft to one side and 5ft back to the pump. I've got a 4ft 120g tank so I only need to push water 8ft. I run my 250 at about 50%. You might have to run yours higher than that. All the other reasons you mention are certainly valid too. So no, I would not even consider a 230.

Yeah, makes sense Baldguy, thanks.

As far as the second generation of these pumps goes, I know they are just coming out but do you guys think they will be more reliable then the first generation. I have read mixed reviews of the first generation.

The 2nd generation has all the upgrades that the 1st generation went through. So basically all the bugs have been worked out and you're left with a great product. For me the only question is whether the new advanced controller has been debugged. That's why I'll wait a few months for that.
