I was planning on cleaning my Maxspect gyres soon. Think they are the cloud 330 or 350. The manual does not go over getting out the ceramic shaft in the motor. YouTube has videos, I’m just looking to not break anything, and need some tips to get motor disassembled. I busted the shaft in my Redsea 45 gyre when trying to pull it from the motor. I have to clean these every couple months, but I’ve never fully disassembled my Maxspect gyres, and they are 18 months old😳

I never disassemble mine, I put the entire thing in a fresh water bucket and add a splash of muriatic acid (GLoves and goggles!) and let it run for 20-30 minutes without power, until the bubbling stops. I may run the moter for a few minutes in the bucket, but this is outside to prevent splash over onto floors. Then I pour off the acid water, add fresh water and baking soda, let it run for 5 minutes, rinse with fresh and put it directly back into the tank.

The acid descales any build ups and doesn't risk breaking a ceramic shaft in the process.

Pro Tip: Use a toothbrush to remove any loose algae on the gyre before it goes into the acid wash. GL

Hi there it's super easy if yours has a little clip over one of the ends you just have to pop that off and once you take the propellers off, just pull it out, they might be a little snug because of the O-rings but I promise you to pull right out. now the 280s are. little different story.

Appreciate the replies Reefing Amigos!! Cleaned a Red Sea gyre today. The one left in photo. Maxspect Gyres are on the back of tank and I have 4. Usually takes 25 minutes of thorough scrubbing to do a gyre for me. I am going to try both methods. Tomorrow I tackle the Maxspect gyres, never tried muriatic acid, but that sounds easy too and I’m going to look into that method for future cleanings. Appreciate the help!!

I've removed the actual motor block, magnet, from a XF280. I have not on the new XF3xx series. If you do a search on Google or whatever you prefer there are some videos on it being done.

That being said they typically do not need that level of cleaning even if aged. Just grab a 4 gallon bucket or something along those lines, add in some citric acid, hot to warm tap water, and take the gyre apart and place everything in the bucket. Let is soak for a few hours. Then remove each blade, cage, and holder and gently brush off whatever is left. Rinse, reassemble, and you should be good.

This was my routine. In fact since Maxspect typically ships with spare blades and cages I more or less stopped the gyre, removed from the tank to rest on euro brace, disassembled, reassembled with spare parts (clean), then put back in tank, and turn on. Less than 5 minute task. Take dirty parts and go through the soaking process then put back on shelf for next rotation.

If for some reason you feel the actual motor block is super dirty just soak it as the norm and then turn it on to run for a bit. That will loosen up build up, rinse, and be done.

If you really want to deep clean then search to find how to remove. I recall on my 280's using a pair of needle nose pliers to grab and pull out. I would suggest reaching out to Maxspect and get their advise on how to properly remove if so.

I think taking the magnet out of the gate is important. They get debris and can get rough. I would remove, clean out, and lubricate. I do it quarterly typically.
