You what you are comfortable with....either way, it will all get seeded if you have LR in your DT.
I only used LR because I'm cheap and I had a ton laying around and got a bunch from fellow reefers.....
Not a big fan of bio-spheres.....

So some Brocken up chunks of the dry ocean rock in the canister would be better than the spheres? What do t you like about the spheres, do you not find them affective?

What carbon source do you use, I’d like to buy one rather than making my own up as It will o my be 200l system. What product would you recommend?

I’ll be starting a new system from scratch

I used and like vinegar.

Thanks for all the help and advice, what kind of vinegar do you use/reccomend? Is this better than using the commercially produced carbon dosing products?
I’ve used vinegar, vodka, NoPOx, diy NoPOX, NP BactoBalance and Plus NP. I used vinegar the longest but currently use NP Bacto Balance.

I find they all work and the best choice probably depends on things I don’t understand.

I’ve used NP bacto balance for more than a year now and it’s been the best for me to achieve stability of nitrate and phosphate. I generally do not dose anything I don’t fully understand. NP Bacto Balance is the exception. I don’t really know what it’s made of, but it works well in my system to keep nitrate and phosphate stable in a narrow range…which is not easy in my small tank.

Food vinegar from a grocery store. Distilled white vinegar. Cheap is fine.
