Ok need some guidance. Bought a tank used (ProClear Prostar 60) and moved my Red Sea Nano Max tank over into it to more volume. Now after 2 weeks from setting up I’m unable to get the skimmer to start skimming again (initially it did for a day). It is a Maxspect SK200, and according to the book optimal water level is 6.3-7.9”. The previous owner definitely did not have it that deep in the water, I know this due to the skimmer stand he had it on will not adjust any lower and keeps the skimmer depth just over 5” of water. To add this is the setup I used when it skimmed for a day or so initially. It stopped within a day later and just held a constant high water level producing no skim. It basically has bubbles on top when turned up and hardly nothing when turned down with the controller. However I customed an egg crate stand and dropped it to 7” water depth and still unable to get it to skim. Basically photo 1 shows what it’s doing on the higher stand and setting in just over 5” of water with the gate closed all the way controller turned halfway up. Picture two in optimal water level gate closed all the way and turned all the way down. It was not cleaned when I bought it so I don’t think a break in period applies, tank is 60 total gallons in volume 43 display upgraded from a 20 gallon all in one with 6 fish ranging 2-4” in size.

So questions:
Could the water actually be that clean and there is nothing to skim? I’m showing 0 on ammonia, nitrates, and nitrites.

Am I setting this up right anything else or advise from someone that uses to help with this setup?

Is the skimmer junk and I just need to sale and buy a reef octo?

I will add i have microbubbles in the display which may have nothing to do with the skimmer setting but thought id mention just in case. Also i do have some brownish growth on sandbed which inbelieve to be diatoms forming on the sand picture attached. Any advice is greatly appreciated Thanks in advance

Are you saying that the skimmer is not producing any bubbles, or the bubbles are not getting high enough to produce skimmate?

Did you clean the skimmer when you got it? Clogs are always a possibility.

Yeah I cleaned it after it stopped working. Tore down again and seems to be foaming some but very slightly. Starting to think the water is just too clean still and not producing skim
