Let me ask 2 question

1, To the people who have been commenting on this post about teen pregnancy how many of you people are parents of teenagers.

2, How do you talk to them about SEX, PREGNANTCY, AND HAVING THEIR OWN CHILD AT THAT AGE?

I am a Father and a Grandfather so tell me what you know and i will tell you what is the fact.

I believe there are not facts, each situation is different. I was a father at 17 and have taken care of my son better than many people that I know of that had children at 30. I am not saying it was not difficult but how each person deals with and takes care of there responsibility is on an individual basis. We were young and dumb, not stupid.

So back to the same Question how did your parents talk to you about the subject before you became a Father?
And how old is your children now?

He is now 16. Like most house holds sex is not an everyday topic at the dinner table. Like most, it was spoken about several times but not all the time. At 15-19 yours of age is when a child starts to mature. No matter what the parents say the teenager is going to make there own decision, right or wrong wether you know it or not. They may say and act as if they are not having sex but in reality there is no way to protect them from doing so unless you put them under lock and key. And if a parent does that..... watch out when the teen leaves home. It would be like a prison. As we know most criminal dont commit crimes once.

This is no perfect world therefore I try to think realistic about real life events. We can talk to teens until we turn red in the face, they will still make the decision that they want. Again, I feel that I am talking realistic, I was a teen not too long ago and even between now and then, times have changed.

So our best bet is to hand them a bunch of condoms and hope for the best. Or promise rings. ;p

Or maybe give young guys estrogen supplements so they won't feel as horny all the time. Not saying this is a guy only problem, but the majority swings that way.

Ooh, ooh I've got it. They should create a pill that makes you homosexual, that would surely cut down on teen pregnancies and abortions. Then when you're ready you can become straight again or move to South Beach. hehehehehehe

Off to do a maintenance. woohoo! Have fun with that one you all!

I think its just one of the many challenges of having a child. All we can do is to inform them so that they can make the right decisions.......

My husband works at a Children's hospital and he's says that's the best birth control around having to take care of a bunch of babies all night.

My Mom is the exec director of an agency that provides services to AIDS patients, so I got plenty of info about that while I was a teenager. Between the risk of AIDS, the various enjoyable stds, and being pregnant I always used protection. lol

I tell you how to deal with it and I am sure many will not like it.

There is power in Godly values, church, and God's word. It doesn't always work, but nothing does. I choose to train my child and the youth of my church in biblical values and I can tell you we have a far better success rate than that of the world. Praise to the keeping power God!

Does your church approve of condoms too or just abstinence?

I told someone the best way to abstinence is marriage. I've been married for almost 6 years and I sure don't get it as often as I did before we were married. lol Course it has a lot to do with being busy, etc.

I’ve known more than one girl who you would think is a good church going person. Who in reality was for lack of a better term a freak.
My favorite one was a girl I new about 10 years ago. She was a preachers daughter. She dated my friend for a short time. She was not as innocent as people thought. She went off to collage at 18 and about six months later disappeared. Her family reported her missing and then about six weeks later they heard from her. She was then married to a 50 year old man she met online. I think to some degree that Godly values and church make it seem like less is going on because the youngsters in this environment will put way more effort in hiding what is really going on.

Thats what I meant by watch if you have have kept your kids under lock and key all of there life. Once they are turned loose they go wild. Of course not all of them but many that I know/knew!

Well Reefer I would love to "get me some", but my husband works nights and tonight is one of them. ;[ He's doing 4 days of 13hr shifts, so that means his first day off I'm SOL too.

FWIW I know plenty of married women that complain about their husbands not wanting it as much as they do. So this whole "married women never want it" thing, is a myth at least with the women I know. I never believed that womens' sex drives actually get stronger as they get older, but alas its true.

Back on topic, did anyone see Craig Ferguson last night giving his lecture on how americans need to get out there and vote and value our democracy? I was really proud of him. ;]

I didnt say that it was perfect, but FAR more successful than that the world teaches......

No one is perfect. Even us church going people. But I can tell you one thing. If you really "got it" and experience with God that is, then you will try your best to please HIM and not yourself. I am no where near perfect, but I do try to please God in the way that I live. Believe in or not there are people out there who are trying and its not by the means of a worldly system, its by a system set forth in the bible.

I should also clarify that church going alone does nothing for you and you might as well stay home if you don't have a relationship with the maker to go along with it.

Lets not go ruining my sexist jokes with reality now. :)

It took me awhile to get thru this thread, and there is a lot to think about in this election. Do we want 4 more years of Bush politics, or something different. I am Catholic, and do not believe in abortion; but I do believe that women should have a choice about what to do to their own bodies. Jesus gave us a choice, either we made the right one, or did not; but it was up to us, not our government. For this election there is more to think about than race and the looks of a woman. If the politicians would put their mouth where there pocketbooks are; with the money they have spent on campaigning, we could all have healthcare. And the billions of dollars spent in Iraq, we could have used in our own country to feed the hungry and house the poor. McCain is also going to reinstate the draft, when asked about the draft, he changed the subject. Research on all of the people running for office, and watch a variety of news channels, not just Fox (they are definately not Democrat friendly), CNN,HLN, etc. Enough for now, and thanks for listening ;)

1, I believe in God
2, I believe in me
3, I don't believe on the politicians (90% of them a corrupt)
4, I believe on taking care of my self before other
5, I'm a practical person
6, I do look at facts first before deciding
7, I also believe that any person should have a choice and decide for him or her self as
long as the person is able and mature

that's it for now

you state that people should research the people running for office. may i suggest that you do your own research before posting things like this. for one the president cannot reinstate the draft, only congress can do this. also this is the same argument used against bush in the last election. it is only a scare tactic used by democrats to try and influence people. and just for your knowledge here are a the few bills currently in congress about the draft along with the link to congresses website so you can check them out for yourself if ive missed where McCain has sponsered a bill to reinstate the draft plese show me so i wont make a mistake.

here are the bills currently in congress that pertain to the draft

http://www.congress.org/congressorg/issues/bills/?billnum=H.R.424&congress=110

http://www.congress.org/congressorg/issues/bills/?billnum=H.AMDT.477&congress=110

http://www.congress.org/congressorg/issues/bills/?billnum=H.R.393&congress=110

this last one is really interesting it says "To require all persons in the United States between the ages of 18 and 42 to perform national service." but hey the replublicans are the bad guys it is sponsered by 1 person and a dem at that.

the draft :horse:

lol nice 1 chuck i love reading post like that
obama the messiah himself has said he would send our troops to afghanastan and look into sending them to darfur ....hmm wonder who will have to start a draft
