McCosker's Flasher Wrasse and Purple Firefish - sand?

I opted to go with starboard in my current tank due to issues in the past with sand (scratches, limited flow, etc) and wanted to check with the masses before introducing new fish.

I would like to have a McCosker's Flasher Wrasse and Purple Firefish, but have been getting conflicting information regarding the necessity for sand. Can anyone confirm or deny the use of sand with these 2 fish?

Flasher Wrasse sleep in rocks, so no need for sand. I had one for a long time in a BB. Not sure about purple firefish, but I don't think they need sand either.

Purple Firefish does not require a sand bed. They sleep in the rock.

Neither need a sand bed, however both need a tight fitting lid.
