Completely coral safe; may pick on an occasional hermit and/or snail. But rarely to the point of decimating the snail and/or hermit population.

Requires a sand bed and a covered tank.

+1 My snails and fighting conch have learned to only come out at night to avoid the Mel wrasse.

The more frquently they are fed the less likely they are to bother motile inverts. The handful of melanurus specimens I have kept gave left my CUC alone, but they certainly are more than capable of taking them out.

I have been told they are legendary for eating parasites. However my melanarus eats ornamental starfish.Naturally he leaves the tiny pest ones alone.
