I've had this wrasse for a few years and its gotten quite large over that time. He looks like a Melanuras Wrasse to me, and was labeled such when I bought him. He is in a 230 gallon aquarium and definitely the tank bully. I got him because he's beautiful but also because I thought this species was supposed to be peaceful. He's in the tank with a juvenile (just starting to change) koran angel, yellow tang, foxface, 2 clowns, 2 chromis, powder brown tang and a bicolor dottyback. No CUC and just 3 anemones. Can anyone confirm it is indeed a Melanuras? His behavior is just so opposite of what I've read. He hasn't killed a fish, but is a very active swimmer and kind of "charges" at other fish, scaring them off. I've added a few pictures. Thanks a lot!

Definatly a lunar wrasse. Had one for 7 years in my 150. One of the meanest fish you can have. And destructive. Can flip over very large rocks. Melanurus remain smaller and are docile. Lunars are Gorgeous fish especially when they get streamers but you can not add any fish to your tank. And at some point may begin to remove the eyes of his tank mates

Yeah. He is getting very nasty, especially towards the brown tang and juvenile angel. I think Ill take him out today, which will be a challenge. He is gorgeous with the streamers. The pictures do not do him justice at all. Oh well. Makes room for another fish! Thanks for your input!

That’s Thalassoma lunare, a large aggressive wrasse. Tough as nails though.

Too bad about the aggressive nature. This one is only getting worse. So he's coming out today. He's been after my new, gorgeous, chocolate tang and juvenile angel. I'd be upset if I left him in there knowing the damage he's capable of.

Mine never attacked any of my tangs and he was in there for 7 years with them. I had a naso, hippo and sailfin. He did go in shortly after them tho. Killed an emoprer anngel i added. Removed both his eyes the first day i put him in. Any small fish like chromis would be eating immidiatly when added to tank.

To catch him put a clam or mussell at back of a big trap. They are gluttons but also a little skeptical. Seem almost kind of smart.for a fish. But he will eventually go in.
