Koran Angel Growth Rate

Hi everyone - Hope you're well. I have a 230 gallon FOWLR aquarium that's been running 3 1/2 years. It's lightly to moderately stocked with a Royal Gramma, Chocolate Tang, Yellow Tang, Melanuras Wrasse, 2 clowns, Foxface, juvenile Koran Angel and assorted anemones. I've had the Koran about a year and a half now. At the time of purchase he was about the size of a Flame Angel. He now is the size of the Foxface (about the size of my hand), but his juvenile blue/black/white lines are still as vibrant as ever. Any thoughts on when it may begin it's transformation into adult coloration? I've heard that large angels get to their adult size in captivity but sometimes never morph into adult coloration. I do not know if there's any truth to that. Thanks for any input you may have! Scott

Yes - for some reason, korans and blue face angels sometimes get stuck in their juvenile color phase. I don’t know why that is though.

I bought mine at 4 inches. Mine started changing id say around 5 inches. Currently its about 7+ inches. Had it probably id say 2 years.

Youre welcome, i just wanted to give you a time frame idea. Every fish is different though.

Absolutely. Im a sucker for triggers and angels. I have 4 large angels, emperor, blueface, and a queen too. Koran is my favorite. Very peaceful for a large angel. Great fish

I love all those too. What triggers do you have? How big of a tank do you have? I had a Clown Trigger once and that was a nightmare. Too bad because they are so good looking. Id like to add another Angel. Maybe the Emperor. Not sure I could get away with another large species. Might get a Flame Angel. I like corals and have had them before. I just much prefer certain fish that arw not reef safe.

Personally, I think your fish looks great, many times when these mature in captivity, they just sort of turn pale, instead of the nice gold wild coloration.

Stay away from emperors, they are jerks. Ive had 2 in my days and both were grumps.

I have 3 nigers, 1 bursa, and 1 sargassum in a 450. I also have an undulated in a 265

And honestly my emperor was pushing 10 inches in my 265, it seemed crowded in there. Its why I got the 450.

That's beautiful! A lot of my favorite fish there. Very nice looking Emperor. What's wrong with the one hippo tang? I love the orange shoulders too. Very cool.

Hlle. Ive tried everything to correct it through the years. Nothing worked. I have 2, one got it and the other is fine. Same diet same life same environment. No issues with all my other tangs either. Unfortunately that fish is my eye sore.

No. Well maybe like for a week or two over the last 8 years, but definitely not in the last 6 years I really feel some fish just get it and others don't. My fish eat better than me, so its not diet or carbon in my case. I feel bad, but I still feel.the fish is better off with me.
