I'm currently running a Reef Octopus 150 and been happy with how it works, just jealous of a friends XP-1000. Recently I was looking at some threads and how people say that by doing the "mesh mod" their skimmer just improves incredibly. Is it really worth it?

I think the only drawbacks are the extra maint that might be involved... replacing the mesh etc from time to time.
