Those 2 fish are gorgeous! If you add anything, I'd add something eel-like in shape. Oooooooh a Midas Blenny would be a beautiful pop of color and the swimming pattern would showcase him.

I would love some sort of eel like creature. I’ve been wanting a golden dwarf moray or a skeletor eel since I love predators but my wife hates them so I’ve been holding of.

Midas blenny you say...that might be something to consider :)

I had a zebra moray and he was great. Peaceful with tank mates and stays active. He got nose cancer and died, but if you ever get one, I think zebras are a good choice.

Yeah, great looking fish! Unfortunately they get a bit to large for my current system. If I ever get an eel it will need to be a smaller species:)

Right, last pic before I head away on my eight day fishing trip to Thailand this Thursday.

I’ve done everything I can to prepare the tank so I’m just crossing my fingers that it will be ok for the duration of my trip. My wife is taking care of the tank while I’m away and it’s generally when she’s alone with it, by no fault on her part, something stupid happens [emoji51]
I’ve had a bit of a problem with high nutrients recently, not a big shocker since I’ve been feeding a LOT to limit aggression and help get the regal established.
Unfortunately that was the final straw for my Pac-Man acro that has been struggling since the tank swap.

Speaking of the regal, it’s doing awesome. Eating like a pig and maintaining weight nicely.

Looks like I will be getting my noopsyche lights by the end of the month, I think that will be a nice addition since the sps on the margins of the reef are struggling a bit.

How's the angel with the coral?

Great looking tank!

The divider in the sump is acrylic? I'm thinking about a solution like that but I still need to remove the sock holders etc for the Rollermat.

Thank you! It’s starting to come along at least.

Indeed it is. I just bought a sheet of acrylic from the hardware store and used a hole-saw.
In retrospect I would probably have made rails for the pane to sit in so that I could remove it easier if I wanted to.

Having a weird problem with my red planet. Most mornings it’s sliming a lot from a couple of its tips and there’s some tissue recession as well. It’s unlike stn in that the tissue seemed to come of very rapidly over night but the recession haven’t continued as far as I can tell.
411a06fe4338994f413f49f0418a34ec.jpg

What’s also strange is that it seems happy enough with good PE and it’s continued to base out, grow new polyps on the base and all other acros are doing just fine (apart from a desalwii that’s been ticked since the tank swap).

At first I suspect that something was messing with it but the only suspect would be my regal but it only seems to happen during lights out when it’s asleep (+ I’ve been watching it for an hour straight during the day with no nipping).

Any ideas of what might be going on here?

Just got back from a week away from the tank and thankfully it looks like its made it through alright :)

Still very happy with the noopsyches, getting some noticeable growth increase and decent coloration :)

The red planet I mentioned in the post above is still acting strange, no more tissue loss but no regeneration either. However, it has great PE and encrusting like crazy.

Some nice growth on this Aussie acro. Six months between the pictures

This guy has finally started doing...something after like eight months of just being a ugly brown nub. Purple base with baby blue growth tips and green polyps

Encrusting like mad. Going to need to scrape some of it of if it continues growing.

Some new stuff:

Filefish to help with eliminating aptasia

Two porcelain crabs

A neon goby (crap pic)

And finally my first rock flower anemone ever

I’ve just started dosing this snake oil
48ca8304e32c195f78ae64625f8585aa.jpg

I saw a bottle at my LFS, had a free dosing head and figured that it couldn’t hurt. It’s going to be interesting to see if there’s any noticeable changes.

Finally I’ve gotten sick to death of changing/washing filter socks so I bought a couple of Red Sea media cups and filled them with filter floss. When it’s clogged I can just chuck it. Major quality of life upgrade haha

I was pooping by the LSF to pick up some food, one thing lead to another and I ended up with a13-14cm maxima clam. It followed me home, what could I do?!

I’ve had bad luck with the two clams I’ve tried since returning to the hobby three years ago, both dying due to pinched mantle. This clam has been in their display system for two months so I’m hoping that I’ll be safe.

The regal and filefish doesn’t seem to be interested in it, yet anyways.

It does indeed. This is the best picture I’ve managed. Stupid iPhone and stupid LEDs.
43A83FDF-C687-4446-A4AF-2E1259DB4F6A.jpeg

It’s slowly expanding more and more, feeling hopeful.

In other news my PE has gone to crap. I suspect that the filefish is picking at the sps without causing any damage but stressing them a bit. Might just toss it in the refugium and bring it up when I need it to eat a few aptasia.

Oh yeah, the wife and I are looking to buy a bigger house and we had the photographer over a couple of days ago since we will be selling our place. He took a good shot of our guest room where the tank is.

The tank is finally starting to stabilize since the transfer so I’m dreading having to tear it up. Especially since I, in a fit of rage/moment of stupidity siliconed the leaking down pipes in place. I’m afraid if I’ll move it I’ll never get it to seal again haha.

One of the houses that we looked at actually had a reef tank in it, a reefer 425xl if I’m not mistaken.
That poor tank was in rough shape, I’ve never seen so many aptasia

Great looking tank, loving the fish and corals selection.
Looks like you got lucky with that regal but so keep a close watch.
any alk swings that could have caused the red planet to have the burnt tips?

Thank you very much!
Yeah, I think I really lucked out with the regal but I will indeed be keeping a close eye on him for any shenanigans.

I don’t think it should have been down to alk burn, my alk generally only moves .2 over seven days.
Luckily it seems to be a non issue at the moment since the recession stopped and it has started to regenerate the lost tissue, in addition to basing out like crazy :)

I normally don’t test nitrates since they’ve been relatively stable at around 5 every time I test and I can normally tell if they are around that number based on how often I have to clean my glass.

Well, I looked at my tank and noticed that my SSC frag didn’t look to good.
After going over things in my head I realized that I’ve only had to clean the glass like two times the last two weeks.
I’ve been busy at work with a new project/finding a new house so it just slipped my mind.

Tested my water and no detectable nitrates...that’s not good. Im surprised that nothing else has started going down hill.

To remedy this I’ve upped my feedings, dosing more acro power as well as started dosing reef energy a+b again.

I’ve made no changes that would reduce nitrates...except adding that large clam. Could it really be that it has absorbed so much freaking nutrients?!
