Another comparison picture, this time of my Millipora :)
Acro compare9.jpg
We see growth pics all the time like those in tanks that don't bubble. What would be useful would be two tanks side by side, run the same except for bubbling, and then comparison of fragments of the same corals put into the tanks at the same time.

It would seem certain commentators on this forum clearly do not understand that this thread exists here in this format, solely to share my experiences and anecdotes on a methodology that is rapidly gaining ground, particularly in my home country.

I am not trying to sell anything or force a particular style of reef keeping on anyone. What ever works for you, stick with that and comment on the relevant threads elsewhere if you so wish.
Keep an open mind here, lest you be judged by certain people but then push on full steam ahead anyway :)

I'm all for scientific studies (being a scientist myself) and anecdotes are just that, so take them as you wish, but this hobby still floats on a sea of anecdotal information and that's what I'm trying to cut through in my own little way, however, at this point there will be no scientific study with all the controls and statistical analyses that entails, here!

I will post my anecdotal experiences here as often as I can, please post yours, if you wish :)

IMO those pictures at the very least show that it is not stunting the growth, nor killing the coral... I imagine that this is one of the fastest growing coral in your system, is that correct? Did you see any negative reaction from any coral? In the Facebook posts by Elegant Corals they say that one might need to interfere cleaning the mucus of corals with a turkey blaster, to avoid "chocking" them. Did you ever felt you had to do that? Also, I was wondering if there is anything like those carbon-based ceramic nanobubble nozzle available.

Nothing negative, just good vigorous growth and colour (but colour can also be caused by other variables).

one of the fastest growing coral in your system
Yes, it's one of the faster growers but not the fastest, that is reserved for this one, a pink lemonade

Like I said above, none whatsoever!

My flow blows everything off, but I can see how that might be necessary if mucus collects, however, my air runs from 10 PM-6 AM,so I'm not awake :)

carbon-based ceramic nano-bubble nozzle available
We looked into getting some ceramic nozzles from Japan from a research company specialising in nano-bubble technology , but at $200 a pop, they were not in budget and you need a 400W pump to push through the system.
I then went to see a physics prof. about syntering some nozzles and he gave me that look that only physics profs can give :D

We are currently doing some good old fashioned home R & D and D.I.Y. to make a micro-bubbler of our own which creates a vortex that shears the inflowing air (shamelessly modified from a Japanese patent), for our own use:)

400W? I can see how that would be an overkill... I will try today to see how it does in one of my frag tanks. I am thinking to try bursts throughout the night, maybe 20 minutes of bubbles every hour... Does that make any sense?

Ya know what might work... someone set up a clear plastic barrier. Equal frags of the same thing on both sides, bubble only one side.

What are you talking about? Who judged anyone? Who asked for a scientific study with all the controls and statistical analyses? Who asked you to not share your experiences? Goodness gracious.

If you are here to create paranoia and obfuscate on the little bit of knowledge I am trying to add to the community then congratulations, you have achieved your aim!

So, if you have nothing of value to add here, I ask you to kindly move on and thanks for playing!

Personally I would bubble for a sustained period of time, however, feel free to try your method and see if you get any noticeable results and if you do, maybe switch to sustained for a few hours.

I would almost be certain that you will see visible results in 7 days :)
Good luck

Well I am taking the plunge. I just ordered a pair of lees 2" air diffusers. I have a couple petco special air pumps laying around. I will give it a go for a week.

Good for you :)

And all it cost you was the price of a few latte's ;)

Please let me know what you observe after 7 days

Good luck

I'm not sure why you are reacting so strongly to a very experienced aquarist who is just trying to get a clear picture of what the benefits might be, and suggesting that some comparisons could be more useful than a single tank. That is the essence of science, and that comment relates equally to every single method any of use use. He is not saying it doesn't provide a benefit, but is trying to clarify what results might be showing a benefit and what might not.

In any case, let's have everyone focus on the results, theories, and science of the method, and leave the personal comments out. :)

Thanks Randy

I know exactly who the commentator is and has now shown his true colours at the end, by calling me crazy, I find this comment to be deeply offensive to my character.

I have been trying to get the science part out and as a scientist have already devised the method that will be used for this experiment. I was merely pointing out the flaws in the commentators methodology.

All I'm trying to do is add to the knowledge pool in this hobby, something I think, we all can appreciate.

Let's move this hobby forward.

Happy reefing :)

Cool pics. What kind of lighting do you use to make corals so chromatic? Actinic? Nice growth rates :)

Nah, just playing with the potential of getting through to him. Since that isn't going to happen, I'll stop. :D
