Rescued these rbta's from a slab of live rock in the old frag tank. Still have 3 more to remove...


We still have some cleanup and a bit of rescue work to do, but hopefully all will be finished in the next day or two.

I've been checking in on your tank threads for some time now. Very cool stuff. How do you guys manage to keep the coralline off of your overflow. I consider myself very picky and scrape my walls every other day, yet my brand new overflows were pink spotted within the first month. What is your secret?

Thank you very much for the compliment and for taking the time to post in our thread. We spend far more time than we care to admit scraping coralline off the back of our tank - and the overflow is the worst. The one good thing about our overflow box is that it is made of smooth acrylic which makes it easier to clean than the textured ones.

A huge THANK YOU to everyone who joined us this year for our Annual Reef Party and Food Drive to support the Central Virginia Food Bank. Last year, we collected 300 pounds of food for the CVFB, so this year we were aiming to top that with a goal of 400 pounds. As is typical with the great people in the Richmond Reef Club, everyone steps up when it comes to helping those in need. The turnout this year was fantastic! It was great seeing new faces as well as our old friends, and we are so grateful for the amount of support given for this year’s food drive. Heading into the holidays, it’s great to know that our club can get together to enjoy each other’s company, celebrate our good fortune, and help those in our community who have fallen on hard times. The Richmond Reef Club has a lot to be proud of, and we’re so happy to be a part of such a generous and caring group.

Each year we hold a raffle during our party. Raffle tickets are exchanged for items that go toward the food drive. We are working with local and national vendors in the aquatic trade to help us out with some worthwhile prizes. A big THANKS goes to those who pitched in for this worthy cause. There were quite a number of items in this year’s raffle, and it was great to have so much participation. Hopefully, everyone walked away with something. Here are a few of the items in the list:

After carefully counting/stacking/packing up and weighing all of the food donations, the final tally is in! We collected 849 food items weighing in at a whopping 675 pounds - more than DOUBLE last year’s contributions! :bigsmile:

Thank YOU, Chris and Brett! Wish you guys lived closer. We have to admit that hosting a party of this magnitude in our home took a lot of work and resources, but it was great seeing everyone and you couldn't ask for a more worthy cause. When we dropped off the food at CVFB, they told us that their food stocks are typically at their lowest this time of year (lull before the holidays) and that the majority of the food items we brought in would be going out the door the same day to families in need.

Our only regret is that we did not get ANY pics during the party... We will be recruiting some amateur photographers next year, LOL!

Thank you Gabriel! The corals have been growing like crazy since we switched salt brands.

Beautiful, but I feel something is different but cant figure out what it is. Did you guys change something?

Brett, we have taken out a few of the larger corals (the gi-normous turbinaria, 2 large stylo colonies, and the 2nd Red Planet colony, as well as pruned back/thinned out some of the remaining larger colonies to make room for new growth, as well as make room for a couple of new frags. Needless to say, we have a bit more to do. Round 2 will be this weekend as we need to thin out some of the slimer (it's shading one of our efflo colonies) and beat back several montipora colonies that are trying to take over, LOL.
