Mimic tang died in QT

Hey everyone my Mimic tang (chocolate tang) died in QT today. I had an ich outbreak in my main display (purple tang) and took all the fish out to treat in copper. I had no casualties prior to the Mimic tangs death. He was 100% healthy yesterday and eating. Today in the morning i saw he was laying on his side and not really active as usual, I let him be in the mean time and went about my day came back to him a few hours later and same thing still laying on his side. I put some food in the tank and he would move. I placed my hand in the tank and moved him around and he didn’t swim way. One of the his flipper (idk what it’s called) was going the wrong direction. I took him and placed him in an acclimation box so he’s not harassed by the other fish and come 4 hours later and saw him belly up.

What kind of copper and in what concentration?

Ionic copper for example can be harsh on fish

I’m using copper power at 2.3 PPM checked with my Hanna. I just bought a new one because I have a feeling the one I have might be off so I’ll double check with the new one when it comes tomorrow. It looked like a physical thing might have been the copper or maybe ammonia but all the other fish are fine. He didn’t show any issues before always so fat and active

Any signs of aggression (tail, etc).
When it was weak, was it breathing normal or labored?
Any blotches on the skin, ?

No the body looked fine, fins were good except one of them looked like it was going the opposite direction. he was breathing a bit heavy though

That 2nd mention of the fin going the opposite direction, I have seen this before in fish (dead) and wondered how that happened.
Now I wonder if that could be some kind of stroke or paralysis that is more or less independent of the copper or antibiotic treatments but rather possibly just from trauma-stress- break down from the process, or even just some physiological outcome that was predisposed in the genetic cards for this individual?

These things always come with a lot of mental torture amongst survivors. I again suggest that we focus on those. GL

So just to be sure - the fish are all still in quarantine in copper - and the acclimation box was also in the copper? If you put the fish in the display in an acclimation box, it means you will need to lengthen your fallow period. Sorry about the fish.

Yeah once I saw that I didn’t think of tanking a video or photo since it was already dead. The other fish look good to me. Some are hiding but nothing out of the usual

No the tank is still fallow. The fish are all still in QT

Hiding - lower light intensity slightly and see how they respond to feeding. If still off, consider a water change and see if they perk up

Yeah I have them in ambient lighting from the room. I’ll see how they’re doing tomorrow
