Minimalist Aquascape for 180 gallon build.

Planning the aquascape today. This is all gravity fit at the moment to feel it out. Will lock it up with E-Marco 400 when I'm done fine tuning it.

Focused on ensuring there was enough sand space and nothing touching the overflow or glass. (More photos and video in my build thread.)

I like it. Lots of sand space. I did eggcrate under the sand once. I hated it. I kept seeing it in places from time to time. Ended up tearing the whole scape out to tear the EC out then reinstalled the scape back in. Suppose if your doing a DSB you probably won't see it. Really dig the rockwork.

Thanks! Yes I am actually going to remove the eggcrate after reading up on it. I'm also going to be experimenting with the E-Marco 400 to see if I can get some floating elements in there.

It’s 2.5 years old now been moved twice and struggled with things on and off lost a bunch as a result. Things are coming back strong. Side shots all I got right now.

So I went a different, more dramatic direction with my aquascape than what I showed a few posts up. The front photo makes it look like there's more rock than there actually is. (The last photo does a better job of conveying sand space.) I also removed the eggcrate as @jcolliii suggested.

E-Marco 400 cement makes a world of difference.

Here's the scape I did for my 150g peninsula, about 40lbs or do of reef saver rock, held together with emarco. Lots of overhangs and room for sps, I would consider it pretty minimal.

I'm a sucker for minimalist rock-work, and I love yours. There's a lot of open space for swimming and water movement. I think it'll look great when you have larger colones shading the areas underneath because it will create a larger sense of depth. It would also provide nice areas for some lower-light LPS, if you intend to add anything other than SPS.

Thanks! This thing is going full blown SPS, the idea is to have tabeling acros on the lower section and branching on the top. The bottom will be filled with encrusting montis.

Yup, that qualifies as minimal IMO and like the rest, I am a fan of what you have there.

Do you have a plan to supplement your bacteria hosting media to account for minimal rock in the display? A sump full of old rock? Ceramic block, etc?

I have 10 Liters of 25mm pond siporax rings in my sump, it's been cured and in several of my builds for about 3 years now. I have moved it from tank to tank and never once saw any sort of cycle in the tanks, I can only imagine how much beneficial bacteria is in them.

Nice. I have 1536 cubic inches of Marine Pure block total in my two systems. They almost do too good a job processing nitrates.
