So, decided I wanted to share my general opinion of this really cheap Amazon ATO system. So it does have an optical switch which seams to work very well. The all magnetic mounts are fantastic and very easy to adjust if needed. The indicator lights are in my opinion hard to see since they seem to be in the same area as the sensor. The pump is supposed to shut it self off if and when it has ran dry, but what I found out that if the water level gets low enough ( typically just above the pump) the pump will continuously try to pump and fail to move the water the 3 or 4 foot vertical to the rear of my AIO. It does come with a backflow valve thingy to keep from siphoning water back into your top off container, but I don't really see the purpose of it if the refill line is not submerged (which I don't believe it ever should be). Not many more features than that. Over all for a fairly basic ATO at or near the $30 price point, I personally think it is a solid buy for beginner or budget friendly hobbiest.

Nice write up

I have been using them since starting my nano tank and it runs flawless. I keep the thing clean and it never fails. I bought a second one for a back up along with other important things like heaters and return pumps. I always keep doubles of everything which includes my freshwater fish and shrimp tanks and Koi pond.
