I am a big time do it yourselfer, and currently found an old mirror at my Mothers house. Being that glass can be a little expensive, and free is always a plus in the aquarium business, I did a little research to find out how to strip it too the bare glass. I currently have a 75 Gal aquarium and am in need of a sump. wanted to use the glass to build a 40 gal sump. Being that there are a bunch of harsh chemicals to strip the glass, do you believe if it is cleaned really well it would be ok to use the glass for the sump? the glass is a 1/4 inch thick and strong enough.

Chemicals can get into the glass pores, and cause problems in the long run. But like Copper in glass, Carbon will take it out, it will just take a bit of time to do this. Probably longer than you are willing to wait.

Got plenty of time. I make my own live rock which takes a couple of months. I think I will soak it for a while and do some water changes before I build it. Being sure to test the water for harmful stuff. Thanks.
