Hi

We have had our salt water tank for a year and our firefish has suddenly disappeared. It was out eating one day and now it has gone. We have looked in the cave where it used to be but it’s not there and we have looked in all the rocks but can’t see all of them. It’s very unlike her/him to just disappear. Has anyone had the same thing happen.

Welcome to Reef2Reef! I am sorry to hear about your missing fish. Over many years of keeping fish, I have found fish in the overflow, in the sump, ones that have jumped, and some that have never been found (sometimes crabs and other clean up crew can be very effective). Making sure that you have a tight-fitting lid is always a good option, but unfortunately sometime fish do disappear even with our best efforts.

Hello and welcome to R2R, we have lost a few also :(

These guys are fantastic hiders but soon come out at every feeding.
Also, and sad to say - they come with pilot licenses and know how to fly well - Notorious Jumpers they are

I agree if you want to keep firefish long you will need a cover if you do not have one already. One day they get spooked.
