Mixing Sand

Hello everyone. This is live sand from an old aquarium. Should I use this sand as a base and then top with new white sand. Whatis your Suggestion

I would not use that old sand. Was it in a freshwater aquarium? It's darker than I'd expect it to be. :)

no saltwater only, but without any fish or coral just empty with salt water

I'm assuming that's black sand. If so and you want to reuse it you'll need to rinse it first. If the new sand is white then make sure you like the look of it mixed because no matter how careful you are some of the sand will get mixed.
