It's official. He's as much of an addict as I am now.
This is the start of my son's 32g BioCube that we just picked up this weekend.
We added about 30lbs of (live) sand/crushed coral/shells and even some seaweed/other random life, on Sunday.
It's settled down nicely.
He's super excited...
What are these tiny red slug looking worms.
There are tons of them in the sand.
Image was taken with handheld micro scope you cant really see them with the naked eye they just look like red specs all over the sand.
Tank is about 2 months old
My lfs just stocked a bunch of 1" engineer goby which are rare and my dream(since I don't live in us so no Hawaiian golden dwarf eels)
I'm now wondering do such small babies burrow much since I'm going to raise them in my 35gal with shallow 1" sand bed before moving to my large tank (70gal)...
So I've been scouring the internet for answers, and found lots of pictures of people's tanks with seemingly the same problem, but everyone says it's something else. So I'm hoping I can post my specific situation and someone will know what's going on.
So I've had diatoms, my rocks were golden...
5yo 20g max nano from facebook marketplace, some cyano and minimal sand.
Close-up pic of some gunk, an alarming-looking worm, and a goby
Not much sand at bottom (definitely less than 0.5”, some bare spots). Previous owner mentioned I may want to take more out. My current plan is to remove...
Curious if anyone can ID the problem with my sand.
I have a 55 gal tank with some fish and mostly softies (Duncan, torch, fuzzy mushroom, zoas, rock flower anemone, etc). I also have snails, hermit crabs, a signal goby (named Traffic ), a conch, a sea hare, and a sand shifting starfish, but my...
I have been trying to provide greater flow across my sand however, the sand keeps getting dusted up. So I was thinking maybe I could place something more course on top to keep it in place. Thoughts?
Hello all,
I have a 10g fairly new tank. Worry not everything is cycled of course but I started noticing orange patches here and there on my sand. All levels are within normal ranges so I have no idea what this might be, but then again I still consider myself a beginner and I don’t know much...
Hey guys,
I am getting back into the hobby again and have a 45 gallon tank. The dimensions are 2ft high, 1ft depth, and 3ft long. I am going to be putting this in a wall near my kitchen and am very excited to get this started. I have some knowledge on salt water tanks. Not an expert by any...
Hello,
I don’t know how exactly all started but I have high ammonia for over 3 weeks now. I’m adding api ammonia lock, prime, api quick start and stability.I did water change 4 times and ammonia is still the same. I had star fish that my puffer was picking all the time and die and one small...
Hey guys, I’m back to share my turmoil and maybe get some support again from you all. My tank was doing great after my last post regarding treating my tank with copper and raising salinity. I had done a few water changes after my copper treatment and copper was down low to a 0.69 ppm. All the...
Hi all,
I purchased a dragon soul favia ~1 week ago and is currently sitting on my sandbed. From what I could tell online, they do well on the sand and are generally happy. Unfortunately, I have a pink spotted goby who seems to enjoy dropping sand into the polyps. I couldn’t find much online...
Hi, I have a 55 gallon tank that Im planning to turn into a reef tank.
I bought 70 pounds of sand and this is what my tank looks like after 35 pounds of sand
I feel like if I add the other 35 pounds of sand, it'll be too much, how much more should I add or is this good enough?
Hi Everyone,
I am booting up my second tank.
I know everyone is pro for bare bottom when keeping sps tanks, however I cannot live without wrasses especially leopards. So this begs me to ask my fellow reefers what sand are you using / recommend? I’ve been looking at the Af Bio Sand, and special...
Hi all,
I'm about to start aquascaping my tank. Should I put a fine layer of sand down first or is it best to put the rock directly on the glass?
I plan on having 3.5"-4" of sand when done but thinking of a 1/4" or less layer of sand before placing the rock.
I plan on having sand sifters in...
Hello,
I’m setting up a new WB100.3 (90x60x55 cm)
It will be the biggest tank I’ve ever owned, so I have some doubts about the stocking…

After a few years, my sandbed, especially in the front of my tank has been almost worn out, during my wc this weekend I exposed the bottom, so it’s time to add some more sand, but I’m not sure where to start. Some places I’ve seen say to use live sand to not suffocate the bacteria in the sand...
Hi All,
My name is Raj, Living in Michigan. New to aquariums. Physician by profession. I am really glad to find this forum. Started exploring aquariums after my daughter asked for a small fish tank. After multiple trips to local fish store, impressed with reef and salt water ecosystems and...
Got this in and I messed up. I'm using all live sand and dont want to mix it. Would prefer local pick-up San Diego area. I paid $65.40 after using my $20 coupon. You can have it for $40 there is a hole in the bag as pictured I will tape that up, that is actually how it came, with the packing...
Having a daily auto-water change, I very rarely do a manual water change - but occasionally give a vac to my sandbed and filter through a python syphon to a large fine filter sock in my sump. Works great, although it clogs after a few minutes. Wondering if anyone has a better solution for this?
Hey everyone,
I know sandless tanks have lots of flow, biological, and maintenance benefits, but I just really prefer the look of a sand bed. Instead going completely bare bottom, could you tile your tank’s floor with flat bottomed base/shelf rock and create a “substrate” that has a lot of the...
Sand bed has some green and red all mixed in there. Before it becomes a Christmas themed sandbed
It is mostly toward front
some Questions
1 normal?

3 if not normal what does it indicate
