Hello there
Planning a 120g 4'x2'x2' peninsula.
On panel where plumbing will reside, have an eshopps prodigy L.
I'm not necessarily looking to keep many/any SPS but would like to be able to have some. But this should not have a significant impact on design.
I am looking to use a sand substrate...
To me it seems like it can go either way. If you have a sand bed for your frag tank you need something in there sifting it. In addition you have increased media for stability and filtration If you have a bare bottom you in theory don't need anything or just a minor cuc. I want to see what...
So I've been fighting sandbed Dinos (large cell amphidinium) for over 2 years now, and have tried just about every method in the book with little to no success. I think I came up with a solution that should work in theory though, but I wanted to make this post to run it past any experts and see...
Hi,
Tanks been running for 9 months, all parameters in check except phosphate which I can never seem to get down.
Moving house in a few weeks and currently have a 2 inch sand bed. Constantly covered in cyano/algae which I’ve been battling since tank started.
Heard that bare bottom tanks can...
Hello, I have a 30 gallon hex with a pistol shrimp, yellow watchman goby, 2 clowns, and a fighting conch. I plan on adding a mandarin dragonette once my pod population is abundant, but was wondering would a fire fish do well with this? It has abundant 30ish pounds of rock work with plenty of...
I have Carib sea ocean direct so it’s pretty fine but it keeps getting moved around a little which does add up and it’s mostly on the side of my hob filter don’t think it’s the powerhead as it’s aimed up and is more at the top of the tank how can I get the sand to stop moving around so I don’t...
Brought home a pearly jawfish last night… he had all this rockwork and all these caves to choose from, but instead he chose the corner between the overflow panel and the glass XD
Tank has been established for about two years now. Inhabitants include fire shrimp, randall's goby, two hermit crabs, emerald crab and turbo snail. There are seven corals, all of which are doing pretty well.
So getting geared up to remove the rocks, animals, suck all the sand out with a shop...
Hey Reefers,
My tank is about 5 days into its cycling stage. When I prepped the tank, I laid an even sand bed of about 2.5-3cm throughout the tank. Since it’s been up and running, the sand has shifted around quite a lot and has settled in different locations, leave my base on 1cm or so thick in...
Helloooo so I was wondering if I can reuse OLD live sand from like maybe 1½ years ago, its in a 5 gallon bucket that's been sealed since then. I don't mind buying sand I just had this bucket laying around so I figured I'd ask and see.
I've been growing out my jellybean chalice now for about three years from a smaller sized frag. It's been on this rock on the sand bed. I plan on fragging it soon but wondered what the growth pattern will look like if I let it keep going? Will it grow over the sand bed? Will it stop growing...
Hi all, about 90 days into the hobby, and the tanks life.
Having fun with the Dino’s takeover; approaching it with over feeding and Microbacter7 to help combat. Ordered Dr. Tims solution to help as well.
However, this white/moldy looking stuff as started to appear the morning after a water...
I'm planning my 235 gallon tank and I'd really like to keep a jawfish. Researching them it looks like they need a significant sand bed. I'm planning on crushed coral this time around at about 1.5". I bought 12 -12" arches. If I make a circle out of them or a retaining wall and plug the holes I...
Hello! I was wondering if anyone could help me out with a small issue with algae.
For context: I’ve had this 20 gallon water box for almost 5 months now, everything was going perfectly and smooth and a month ago. I was talking to my LFS and with some advice I decided to change change the...
Hey hey!
So I've got a 90litre. Set it up currently letting the rock cycle.
The sand I got caribsea pink fiji. I really want a pistol shrimp but this sand LOOKS too fine! It's created little mini sand storms in my tank, I haven't yet got a wavemakers. sand would you recommend?? Perfect for...
Help! I brought home my pygmy waspfish a couple hours ago, acclimated him, and put him into the tank where he ran around a bit at first, and then laid down in the corner and half way buried himself in the sand. I work at the lfs he’s from and I’ve been target feeding him and building trust for...
Hi everybody,
I’m setting up my new 75G tank.
I have inserted the sand, I chose the Carib Sea Ocean Direct Oolite, I like it very much, however the grains are very thin and they move everywhere with the flow of the pumps. Also when the sand goes on the corals it remains on them and it is...
I made a rookie mistake and setup my aquascape on top of the sand bed. It's nestled down slightly, but sits on top of the sand bed. The tanks been up and running for 6 months removing the rock work doesn't sound like a good idea. I've got some Cyano growing in the sand bed and I was looking at...
It's official. He's as much of an addict as I am now.
This is the start of my son's 32g BioCube that we just picked up this weekend.
We added about 30lbs of (live) sand/crushed coral/shells and even some seaweed/other random life, on Sunday.
It's settled down nicely.
He's super excited...
What are these tiny red slug looking worms.
There are tons of them in the sand.
Image was taken with handheld micro scope you cant really see them with the naked eye they just look like red specs all over the sand.
Tank is about 2 months old
My lfs just stocked a bunch of 1" engineer goby which are rare and my dream(since I don't live in us so no Hawaiian golden dwarf eels)
I'm now wondering do such small babies burrow much since I'm going to raise them in my 35gal with shallow 1" sand bed before moving to my large tank (70gal)...
So I've been scouring the internet for answers, and found lots of pictures of people's tanks with seemingly the same problem, but everyone says it's something else. So I'm hoping I can post my specific situation and someone will know what's going on.
So I've had diatoms, my rocks were golden...
