Because of the warm weather we've had here in NJ the past couple weeks, I pumped the water off my pool cover....and ran it through a filter sock......thousands of mosquito larva squirming. I dumped them out on the garbage can lid and watched this mass squirming about while they dried and died!

I haven't seen it in years, but when I was a little kid....late 50's, early 60's....this truck would drive around in the summer spraying a big fog out the back. The kids in the neighborhood use to run out behind this truck.....if only we knew. I'm sure it was toxic, but no one said anything back then.

It probably was, I believe they would have probably used or DEET or some harmful pesticide.

We actually have an elected official for our mosquito control board, funded through our real estate taxes. They are bad here in SW Florida.

The state items trucks that goes around spraying chemicals to help control the problem.

They also dump pesticides on top of us using planes, making "organic gardening" quite difficult to do in Louisiana. :p

That would be scary. I plumbed the air intake of my skimmer to get air with lower CO2 from outside. I was just thinking that I need to add a carbon filter for that air so if any chemicals are suspended in the air it would not kill all my fish and corals, and right after that I saw this post...

I have worked at a couple of places where those trucks would drive through the shop fogging the whole place up. Once it caught fire somehow right behind me. All I knew was I saw a flash and felt a bunch of heat. I thought I was dead! I turned to look behind me and there was a 15' flame shooting out of the fogger. Close call...

I couldn't understand why these small planes kept buzzing near our house at 1-2 am, until a pilot friend explained it to me. He said they only do it when mosquitoes levels get really bad, and then late at night to avoid dumping chemicals on people. But it still sucks to be one of these "out all night" types or have your own organic garden. ;) Or what you are doing. ;)

I like to eat copious amounts of food and then complain that my stomach resembles that of a walrus.

The Tulip were originally a wild flower growing in the Central Asia and were first cultivated by the Turks as early as 1,000 AD. The flower were introduced in the westen Europe and the Netherlands in the 17th century by Carolus Clusius, a famous biologist from Vienna.
