Nice skimmer, Just a more refiend am 250. Same body diameter. Longer transition to the neck. And a more efficient pump. Should be very similar performance to the am 250. Again just a little bit nicer unit for the efficiency

Mojo....I am gonna ask a ? that some may think is stupid but something I am thinking about doing. I replied in your aquamaxx thread the other day and have considered the 250 but....
I am running an ASM G3 on my 130ish mixed reef. I have always been happy with the performance of this unit. It wiil pull thick sludge or will skim like crazy wet which is what I like. I have 2 old top phatoms (dont know if I am spelling that right) 1 large and 1 medium these always skimmed adequatley.(the smaller one is skimming a 40 breeder frag tank now) I am in the process of setting up a 220 that I am going to plumb to my basement with sump,refuge,frag tanks etc. Room is not going to be an issue. Would you think that using multiple skimmers would be as good or better than say one new aquamaxx 250?

not a dumb question at all. I get asked this a lot actually. One balanced skimmer is best in my opinion. But in theory if you could have one slightly larger runnning and one a little too small you would get the smaller one to still pull skimmate when the larger unit shuts down.

I have never seen anyone be able to do this with success.

how is the skimmer now?

Well..the skimmer seems to be skimming a bit better, but the micro bubbles are still there. It's in 8.25" of water. If I take another layer off of the egg crate, it will put it in 8.75"...what do you think?

Excellent Info, Thanks for posting. Wish I had seen it sooner as I am purchasing equipment for a new 70G Cube. Ended up going with the Super Reef Octopus XP 1000SSS.
Is this a good choice in your opinion? Its going to be a SPS,LPS mixed reef. Been doing some research since I purchased this Skimmer and now I think I should have gone with the 2000XP. Its really a fine line as I don't want to over-do the skimmer size either, right?
Debating now on whether to exchange it for the bigger skimmer ( which I'd rather not do, but I really want as good a skimmer as I can get in my price range) What's your opinion, will the SRO 1000 be enough ? I am not planning on upgrading this tank for some time.

I think you are fine with what you have. I think the 1000 you have will perform more constant than the 2000 as your tank matures.

Keep what you have. You will be happy with it I am sure. And if you really must upgrade to the 2000 the int would be better for your tank as the neck is a bit smaller. I would save my money and put it towards something else. Good luck with the 1000 and takes some pics later on to show us all how you like it.

Thanks Mojo, that helps alot ! The reason I went with the 1000 originally is because I thought the 2000 might be too much. Somehow I talked myself out of that conclusion.....Now I feel good about the purchase.

It will still be a few weeks before I get it going but when I do I'll post some pics.

idk they claim it can handle 500 gallons or so, i just dont see that happening but hey i can be wrong. if you could run a review on that skimmer that be nice

not 500 gallons IMO either. But that is on the largest one. I would say about 300 gallons. Still a nice skimmer.

Mojo - I really like the list arranged by tank size, that is so helpful! I know you mentioned possibly including pictures for each, I think what would be even better (if you had the time of course) would be your recommendation for water depth for each skimmer - it seems to vary a lot more than it used to.....
