I currently have this montipora, then just got a couple anacroporas. pH is 7.94, i am doing what I can to get this up over 8. Soda Ash is short lived and I am messing with more surface agitation.


This monty has white at the tips, but it doesn't look as pink as I think it used too be. Too much light? This is probably like 176 par (or so, where it's at ). Other corals seem to be fine, hammer coral, duncans, zoas etc.,

Alk 8
Calcium 480 (a little high)
Magnesium was 1483
Temp 79
Tropic Marin Pro Reef Salt
Tank is about 2 mos old.

I don't dose anything at the moment. Any help would be appreciated.

Try and get photos that are under white light vs the blue.

Phos: 0.2
Nitrite: 0.2
Nitrate: 7

In this you can see another issue I am fighting which is all that particulate in the tank.

You could raise your phos and you should have zero nitrite maybe try adding more bacteria like microbactor 7 did you start with live rock or dry rock?

I started with 17lbs of live rock, caribsea live sand and such. Tank is 2 mos old. I think I have some FritzZyme 900 in the frig.

I think in all reality your tank just needs time to mature. You dont really need to dose until
You start noticing that your alk,cal and mag are being used. If you have a small coral load you can probably keep up with just water changes. That is not doing it then you can use a all
In one like all for reef. But never dose with out testing

Only thing I have added (on ocassion) was soda ash (BRS, mixed in 1 gallon jug of RODI). And its at most 20 ml when my alk goes down. Which my alk was like 6.6 the other day per the LFS and I dosed Soda Ash last night. Right now titration is reading 8. Might be a little lower or higher?

IMO not enough light, the cap is growing upwards on the side to get to more light.

8 is fine 8.5 is perfect has the most room for error.if 8 works keep it there you don’t want it floating around that could be the problem with your corals my friend keeps her alk at 7.6 its low but it works for her and its stable most important of all. I keep mine around 9. It’s high but it works for me. But stability is what you want most of all over any number. My cal is 380 always i have to fight to get it over that so i stopped trying my tank wants to run at 380. Its not perfect but its better then fighting something

bleaching or fading away? bleaching is a quick thing, slowly fading away is indicative of low light

So this coral has been in there for about a month, so maybe this is more fading away? The tips look like its growing.

I'm sorry I don't know, one month is a short time, 176 par is not that low to fade out in one month I don't think. Hopefully more knowledgeable can help, good luck

IMO you definitely need more light. Bleaching would more likely be caused by too much light unless parameters are wack. I would try to bring up phos a little. White tips generally sight new growth but not always. Kinda hard to tell from this photo. The coral browning out sorta can be from not enough lights or proper parameters

I think my lights were still in acclimation mode, so I changed that to see what that does. Will give it a couple weeks and see how things look. Thanks.
