Monti Cap Turning Grey and Sliming

I have a piece of Red Montipora Capricornis that I recently bought. It was broken off a healthy colony when I bought it. A few days ago I saw one of my hermit crab sitting on top of it. Today I see that area had turned grey and had slime all over it. Could the hermit crab have caused this?

Does anyone have any experience with this issue?

Could be that the hermit was picking at it. Or it was having an issue and that's why the hermit was on it. Can you post your parameters along with a picture of what you're referring to?
