I originally posted in the equipment thread but someone directed me here...

I bought a glass skimmer from a fellow reefer and need to fabricate some kind of mount for it. At the moment while I'm testing it out I've cobbled together a suction cup and ponytail holder contraption you can see below in the pic. It actually works okay but obvs not suitable for long term.

Someone suggested maybe one of the 3d printer peeps might be able to assist? I know zilch about 3d printing, it stills seems very close encounters of the third kind to me ;Cyclops.

Any ideas are appreciated, thanks in advance.

What are the dimensions of the skimmer glass? Diameter wise.

Something like this would be the easiest solution. Make the diameter of the holes slightly larger than the diameter of the skimmer. Then use an 0-ring over the skimmer glass to adjust the height of the skimmer in the tank.

Print in 3 pieces with PETG then weld the rings to the mount.

Wow that's exactly what I need! I will measure the skimmer and send the dimensions over tomorrow, my lights are out and everybody is down for the night so I don't want to get them all stirred up - the Tang gets grouchy if you wake him up lol.

Thanks guys @dantimdad @JDowns @crusso1993 @jeffchapok

I can work up a final design tomorrow with the dimensions. There needs to be a step on the inner side of the mount against the glass to create an air gap so you don’t get salt creep up the mount.

Is that the Nuvo 10?

What a fun community project!

Any idea what color you want it @damselindistress ?

I have several that will work in water. Black, white, blue, bright yellow, gray, purple, green, red and orange.

And I can always be talked into getting a new color. :)

Guys I'm so sorry my whole house has been sickkkk....we are on the other side finally.

The diameter is right at 1.375 inches and the length is just a hair under 12 inches.

Here's where I may have made a mistake - I bought this skimmer in hopes of replacing a tunze 9004 that I have in the main display of my 60 gal AIO...my back chambers are so small I had a very difficult time finding a skimmer that would fit. This glass skimmer may not be able to sufficiently skim a 60 gallon - thoughts?? I will still use the skimmer for a smaller future nano build if I don't get the skim function I want from it in the 60 gal.

I'm anxious to hear your all's feedback @dantimdad @JDowns ! Also... I love pink or purple or clear  thank you all for your willingness to help me! Could you maybe DM me with the price? Or you can post it here, whichever is easier.

BTW, @damselindistress I am glad you all are getting better.

I know all about a house full of sick people having raised two boys basically on my own. :)
Thanks for the well wishes - I have a son as well, he's recently graduated college and gotten married so he's out on his own. My husband and I moved back to our hometown last year to look after our aging parents...that's turning out to be more challenging than raising kids lol.

Will do.

I would print a quick set of three rings to test fit first. Doesn't have to be fancy no more than 2mm thick, 35.25mm, 35.50mm, and 35.75mm. That will give you a quick test fit to make sure you got the right diameter and o-ring before you print the final assembly. The last two will probably be the right fit without being too much space or too tight.
