Moving a tank 3 inches

Want to move this 120 gallon about 3 inches forward. This will let me place MP40s on the back glass. Hoping to remove rocks that are not too large, drain 1/2 the water and use scissor jacks to push the tank forward. Tank is 2 years sitting on laminate flooring.
Please let me know your thoughts.

On laminate flooring, any chance you can slide it little by little one side at a time? I did this with my 75 (i know, not as heavy as yours) but on laminate it might be easier than you think.
Otherwise I'd say drain your water as far as you can, and then try.
 
I think pushing it forward with all that weight would throw off the integrity of the stand. I would really want to pick it up. Just 60 gallons of water is almost 500 pounds. glass another 250lb?

I would not bother to do all that, MP40s work better from side to side, they can move more water that way… if you do all that you’re taking such a big risk just to realize that mp40 will blow your sand all around in that position, you will only be able to run them at 25%

good point. before you even attempt, maybe grab a few suction cup powerheads and place them inside to see how it would affect everything.

Im thinking it's an aesthetic thing putting them on the back wall, no dry side sitting on the sides of the tank. but agree, they're definitely more efficient there.
 
The main reason is to enjoy more side views. Another bonus would be a better mount for auto feeders. That Plank feeder is a bit bulky.
 
Not knowing the construction of the stand, I would not recommend this even with an empty tank. Now, if the upper frame is substantial, and the tank was virtually empty, I'd jack it up and put furniture movers under the corners and slide it forward. Again, if upper frame is well build, that's how I jacked up my tank and stand, with a 2x4 jig (and an upper frame made of 2x6's) and an auto jack. Note, tank was totally empty.

Tank is furniture grade wood. Please excuse the messy sump area.

Maybe spray some lube soapy water or silicone or similar around the stand base in case it’s stuck to the floor a bit over the years. I imagine it will slide a few inches without much trouble. Windex is great for sliding
 
I don't see enough room to fit the jacks. You would want the force applied as low as possible. In my case I have a floor mat between the laminated floor and the tank. When the tank was empty the mat and tank could still be slid on the floor.
If I wanted to move it forward I would drain it and remove the rocks and sand. Also drain the sump. Then I'd put a rope on the floor behind the tank. Putting a loop on each end of the rope gives an attachment point for Jack's. Then I'd put a couple of 2x4s against the baseboard to help distribute the horizontal force. The attached sketch shows how you would be able to put your jacks or even pry bars away from the wall.
