I’m moving to Arizona from California and I have a 35 gallon AIO. The drive time is about 6 hours. Right now I have 3 fish and around 8 small pieces of corral 2 SLP and 6 LSP. I’ve watched a lot of YouTube about the process but wanted to get your takes. Can I do a new sand bed? How much of the original tank water do I need? Can I transport my live rock using new premixed saltwater from my LFS or does it have to be tank water. Any and all suggestions are welcome. Thanks in advanced

Good times. I moved all contents of a 180g to a new house with a 450g tank that was pre-set up.

I bought several ice chests and usb battery powered air stones to transport everything.

My drive was about 4.5 hrs and I did it in two different trips.

I would probably do a new sand bed…depending on how deep your current sand bed is you could stir up some nasties. If you want to use the same sand, then rinsing it would be a good idea.

The main thing will be keeping your live rock submerged and at appropriate temps. You could use your current tank water for the corals. You could use new pre-mixed water for the fish and live rock.

Make sure the fish and corals are in separate (coolers) so the fish don’t get smashed/trapped as things will move around while driving.

It seems daunting…and it kind of was because I had to move a lot…but I didn’t lose any of the 25 fish. Lost a couple of corals down the road.

Good luck!

This is awesome thank you makes me feel a little better about this since I’m doing it on my own. I will do the new sand bed then and keep the fish and live rock in pre mixed water from the fish store. Thank you

Your corals would be most sensitive to water changes so that’s why I said use tank water for them. The live rock and fish won’t care about being in newly made saltwater.

Good luck and everything should be fine.
