Are there any plans to make an MP10 pump with stronger magnets capable of being used on 1/2" glass? My tank is a custom built 36" long tank with 1/2" glass thickness. I'd really like to be able to use 2 MP10's as opposed to 1 MP40 on it.

According to your website "Max Tank Thickness: 0.375 inches (9.5 mm)" . I've heard some people use silicone but I don't want to do that nor would I want to do any modifications to brand new pumps and void my warranty.

Also can all modes (Lagoon, Reef Crest, Gyre, Tidal Swell, Nutrient Export, Wave Auto Tune) be used with only 1 pump or do some require 2? I've heard some modes require 2 which is one of the reasons I would want 2 on my tank.

I will be purchasing brand new pumps soon.

I am currently using two MP10's on my Elos 100. The glass thickness is 10 mm (.394 inches). In my case, the magnets are working just fine, but it seems to be the maximum thickness it will work on. With 1/2 inch glass, you will have issues with the current MP10's. I am not sure if they are producing any new models with stronger magnets.

I have used an MP10 on my tank which has 1/2" glass and it worked fine. Admittedly it was not as secure as it would be on thinner glass but it stayed for a couple years. If it gets bumped by anything it may fall but otherwise worked fine.

The trick is to use the sticky pads and support it with the zip ties. It works fine this way on 1/2" glass.

Could you elaborate or post a photo of these sticky pads you speak of. Unfortunately zip ties are not an option. Cranked full speed I can't imagine the magnets holding on well.

It's just a piece of plastic that has double sided sticky tape with holes on the other side that accommodate zip ties. The ties hold up the power cord, just above the dry magnet. If it gets bumped, the dry side will not fall to the floor. Ecotech usually includes a couple with their Vortechs. I bought a bag at Home Depot that should last me a lifetime.

Btw, I ran a pair of mp10's on my 1/2" thick glass tank for over a year with no problems using the zip tie method.

Not my picture, but this gives you an idea as to what he is talking about. I have my MP 10's up using the zip tides as well. IMO, you will not be happy with using the MP 10's on your 1/2 inch glass. Even if it holds, any little issue will cause separation between the wet side and the dry side. As you mentioned with higher speeds, there is zero chance in my opinion.

With all that said, I upgraded to the mp40qd's because I felt I needed more flow in my tank. My tank is 36x30x16 (75g) and I absolutely love my pair!
