One of my mp40s which isnt even a year old is having this issue. It seems to coincide with coming out of feed mode and the pump restarting. I have never used anything than water and elbow grease to clean them once a month or so. my tank isnt very thick glass its a deep blue 80g rimless tank. any suggestions?

Check the shaft and hardware and assure it is tight. Also the magnet to assure its not wobbling.
Be ready for ecotech to sell you something and blame you rather than resolve

If it's inside the warranty and it's mechanical, they will probably replace it.
I've had them replace stuff that was out of the warranty.

Make sure the clips holding the magnet assembly into the wetside frame are properly seated. Also that you're using the proper spacer. Not sure I completely understand the title .... clunking I get but what do you mean by demags? Is the wetside actually falling off?

It make a sound like knocking in an engine i guess is close, and yes falls off the tank. Like if it somehow reversed magnetized and falls off. works fine when i put it together again and get it back placed right. Its only happened like 3 times so i wanted to get on top of this.

I had the same problem and it was actually the wet side. It was all gummed up and was actually stiff to turn by hand. Which would make the dry side skip and then it would bounce off the glass. Take the wet side off and see how smoothly it turns. If it's a little tight pop the cage and inspect the magnet. It may be starting to swell or bind
