A rose by any other name would smell just as sweet! But it's easier to say 'rose' and let people conjure that image in their head than to try to describe it every time.
We can collectively be called many names, aquarist, reef keeper, fish/coral nerd, etc. My question is, what do you refer to all the non salty people in your life as?
Mostly those friends who affectionately call you a fish nerd? I mean i totally am, won't deny it, but it would be fun to have something silly to say back.

You could go with something like "tankless wonders" or simple call them "reefless".

Tankless. Love it! Especially if you were to speak it with an Irish accent lol. "Ah that's rich coming from you, my tankless brother"

...yes, and I am envisioning telling someone that they are "so tankless" with the inflection that you would use when referring to someone as heartless or soulless.

Most definitely!

How about "unsalted" or in that same vein, "bland"

You could also use the term "landlubber" or "dry and saltless".

Poor saltless non-aquatic people. They have way too much time and money for their own good.

I don't call them anything. I just tell them I have an aquarium and I couldn't imagine not having it. They tell me it's beautiful and that I should get rid of it.
I dont think ive ever had someone flatly tell me i should get rid of it. Hopefully you get more people comment on the beauty aspect.

I have always had the kind of relationships that people close to me feel the need to give me flak. Its like i wear a sign on my back that says "please harass". Especially after meeting anyone else from my childhood family (especially my brother) and witnessing an interpersonal exchange. A playful ribbing is just the way we let eachother know that we care. The wittier the better, and sometimes verbose and a touch purposely pompus. As such i hear frequently that it is beautiful, but also that i am a super nerd or countless variations along that theme. Witty retort and banter is par for the course. I would be offended if one neglected some sort of jovial backhanded complement once they've gotten to know me better. This thread is just a fishing expedition for building blocks of healthy repartee. :)

In the Bible, the phrase "waterless spirits" appears in Matthew 12:43-45 and Luke 11:24, which describe an unclean spirit that roams through dry places in search of rest:
That is fantastic and definitely fitting for a Sunday evening! I am for sure going to take some verses out of context... thanks Kris!

Amen Brother Red Beard! Getting your family to pursue the reefing hobby could save them from a lifetime of useless wandering around without any significant hobby to help them grow up and live.

That for sure gets an Amen brother Kris!
My sibs have a ton of other expensive hobbies, ridiculous things like ice climbing, fpv drone racing, and fly tying/ fishing unfortunately and have hardened their hearts to the aluring glow of the acro. But I almost have my brother in law converted. I also have a friend converted, in the process of building a tank. Mostly for selfish reasons did i spread the good word, to be sure. Need a convenient way to ditch extra nems and frags :P
