30 gal money pit but i love my money pit

currently building a 30gal reef with inverts, clowns, some extra residents, and lots and lots of coral. i dub myself the crazy coral lady, i honestly think i love them more than fish.

right now it's not much, i only got the tank up and running about 3 weeks ago. tank's fully cycled, i grabbed some water from my previous (healthy) dt and added some healthy bacteria to get everything going. current residents are 2 ocellaris clowns (introduced individually and ended up pairing), 1 fire fish, 1 snail (he's be getting more friends soon, gotta add more CUC this week), 1 blue/green sympodium and 1 blasto merletti. i have a duncan, 2 types of zoas, a favia and gsp coming in this week and i seriously cannot wait!

my tank isn't much right now, but i'm very excited for this journey of filling it up and making it into a beautiful reef for my beloved fishies and corals. thanks for following along!

PLEASE NOTE: in the pics of the clowns, it does look like somethings on them but i promise it's just air bubbles and weird angles plus it was feeding time. couldn't get a good pic. the smaller one may look a little skinny but this one's super young still and eats like crazy, i've only had it for about a week and a half so far and looks incredibly better than when i got it. the clowns are completely okay :)

my new frags came in yesterday and are finally in the tank! i added a duncan, 2 zoas, a gsp, and a dragon soul prism favia (which is super new to me so if anyone has some good tips that'd be much appreciated)

i temp acclimated them, then did a coral dip before putting them in. only took about an hour for the magician's zoa to fully open, but the other zoa is a bit more stubborn and only has about 2 out of the 6 polyps semi opened right now. it may just take a couple days so i'll wait a bit before tampering with it and moving it around. the gsp is in full bloom (yay!), the duncans fully opened and happy, and the favias are happy in a nice little spot away from everyone else lol. attached is a pic of the duncan!

Exciting.
So what types of corals or just a mixed reef?
I am curious how fast does the sympodium grow?
I too appreciate corals over fish.

i’m looking to create a mixed reef, i really like the look of everything together. and honestly, it doesn’t grow super fast like xenias even though they’re cousins however it does grow faster than most other corals. super excited to see it’s growth soon

added some well-needed clean up crew today now that my parameters are stable and the tanks fully cycled. got 2 nassarius snails and a cleaner shrimp who’s super interesting to watch. had no clue that cleaner shrimp do a little dance to basically advertise their cleaning services! so cute.

my levels finally evened out to zero about a week or so ago, i wasn't totally sure for a bit if my tank was fully cycled yet or not but did a water test during a change and levels are finally perfect and stable. corals are thriving, and the magician's zoas even grown a new head since getting it back in april. i had to move the sympodium off the frag rack because it's starting to grow and i didn't want it to attach to the rack so now its mid-tank and happy on some rock. hopefully it'll start to grow directly on it. the nassarius snails are like actually really cool to watch, they keep their little antenas up when burrowed its kinda funny. and the cleaner shrimps always bothering my duncan and blasto by crawling all over them when chasing food lol. he also molted yesterday, i thought he was dead but he's here and thrivingggg!!!
