Can you explain your custom battery backup solution? It looks like you have tied a couple of car batteries together? Is there some kind of regulator/DC-DC converter to ensure equipment is getting the correct voltage?

Hi,
In the event of a power outage I wanted to run both the return pumps at 100% to ensure adequate water movement to keep the system alive

The batteries run in series to provide a nominal 24v output, these are kept charged my a standard trickle charger. I'm using a CTEK 24v - MXT4.0. The batteries are Ritar 100 Amp/hour - RA12-100

I swapped out the stand vectra power supplies with an industrial 36volt power supply larger enough to power both devices. The power supply is a Meanwell 36V - HLG-320H-36A rated to 10year expected lifespan.

This runs through a 36 volt relay - KUP-11D15-36. The power supply is also wired to power the relay coil so when the power goes out the relay opens and the pumps are powered off the batteries. The batteries are isolated when the power supply is on.

Since the vectras need 36 volts I needed to get a 24v-36v step up converter. The only place I could find one was a alibaba special. Everything runs through fused connections.

On top of this I also wired in the standard ecotech 24volt battery backup to the Vectras just in case the relay or converter failed or a fuse popped. I also wired in two of the vortech MP60s to continue to run

Hope that explains it well enough.

Cheers
Ben

After I completed the stand design. was all just cutting and welding

The longer posts at the back are to support the side panels.

Next up was the make the cabinet.
This was made out of 19mm marine plywood

To sure the cabinet fit correctly I clamped the panels to the frame and routed around them. I then used a circular saw to cut the panels. This gave perfect tolerences

Since the frame is steel I recessed high strengh magnets into the panels to hold them to the frame

As everyone does when they get to this point in a build with the tank on the stand

You get a photo in your tank
