Hi! My name is Kyle, and I am a reefoholic for 8 years....
So when i came to this store i noticed my GM had a salt water tank and we would sit and talk about it for 30 minutes at a time at least 2-3 times a weeK. He would ask for information on how to keep this and why dies that look like it is dying. I personally have 210 gallon at home SPS dominating with some Z's and P's here and there a 40 gallon frag tanks and a 40 gallon sump. I have been wanting to have a tank at work for a while. I eventually came across a 6 Gallon Fluvual edge that was being used as a freshwater aquarium. The owner clearly did not take care of it and was beat up pretty badly. I already had plans for it so i knew how beat up it could get and it would not matter. The light bar had enormous amounts of salt creep, the sockets for the stock lighting were rusted out and flickering, a portion of the hood was rusting out and it was still filled with stuff from the fresh water set up.... i was pretty bad. I knew that i wanted to install LED's so the light bar was going to disappear. I knew i wanted to properly cool the LED's so a portion of the mesh hood needed to be removed. So i cleaned it up, removed all the wiring from the light bar, removed the light bar and installed a 7 LED's array, cut a 120 mm computer fan hole for the cooling, painted the inside of the cover white and today wired and tuned the LEDs up to 750 mA on a ELN 60-48D dimmable driver. 5 Phillips Leuxon Royal Blues with 2 Cool whites. It looks amazing.
I will post progressive pics of the build up to completion when i go to lunch... wait..... is any DIY build we actually perform in this hobby ever truly complete?
