Trying to figure out to keep 400 watt MH or get this 150 watt led panel a buddy will give me . Its a Chinese model but worked well in his 60 cube. Any suggestions

Both will work fine, but the 400w might cause a heat issue if not ventilated properly.

So the led will be fine alone over the 65 gallon it's a Chinese model 150 watt half white half blue

Some told me that u measure led watts needed for sps length x width x hight divided by 18 is that true?

I've never heard of the LED guesstimate routine, I'd say stick to what your comfortable with. If you've been running the MH then stick with it.

Also being that you have a 36" long system you will have some shadowing on the sides. I'm guessing that LED fixture is only roughly 15" long?

Went with a 270 watt full spectrum led panel and love the lights so do my corals. I've seen much more pop-up from my sps. Thanks for the info
